Former President Donald Trump has endorsed Rep. Bob Good’s opponent and wants the Virginia Republican to stop using his name and image to promote his campaign.
Trump’s campaign sent a cease-and-desist letter to the House Freedom Caucus chairman last week, days after the former president endorsed state Sen. John McGuire who is running against Good in the June 18 Republican primary.
“Neither you nor your campaign are authorized to use President Trump’s name or the Campaign’s to falsely imply their support of your candidacy. Nor are you or your campaign authorized to claim that you represent or are otherwise associated with President Trump,” attorney David Warrington wrote in a letter to Good, NBC News reported, citing confirmation by “a senior Trump campaign official.”
“Producing and displaying materials that give the false impression that President Trump is supportive of your candidacy is a fraud on the voters of Virginia’s 5th Congressional District. It is an abuse of the voters’ trust to make such false statements,” Warrington added.
The attorney’s letter reportedly contained an image of various campaign signs in Virginia that displayed Trump’s name above that of the lawmaker.
Last week, Trump announced his “Complete and Total Endorsement” of McGuire on Truth Social, indicating that he was still angry that Good had endorsed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in the presidential primary.
“Bob Good is BAD FOR VIRGINIA, AND BAD FOR THE USA. He turned his back on our incredible movement, and was constantly attacking and fighting me until recently, when he gave a warm and “loving” Endorsement – But really, it was too late,” Trump wrote.
“The damage had been done!” he added. “I just want to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, and the person that can most help me do that is Navy Seal and highly respected State Legislator, John McGuire, a true American Hero.”
Thank you President Trump for endorsing my campaign for Congress!
Together we will fight for We the People and Save America.
We can do better than Good.

“We can do better than Good,” McGuire wrote on X, thanking Trump.
Early in May, Good’s website featured an image of him with Trump as well as the former president’s 2022 endorsement, according to the Internet Archive. The current site now features an endorsement from Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY).

“I have never been the choice of political power brokers in Washington,” Good said in a statement to NBC News last week.
“My opponent does not have an America-first conservative record in the General Assembly. That is why he is supported by the RINO moderate establishment wing of the Republican Party. And it is why he is funded by allies of the former Speaker who is directing the dark super PAC money in support of his campaign,” Good added.
