The officer who recently arrested the world’s number-one professional golfer is adamant that he did absolutely nothing wrong.
In a statement released Wednesday, Det. Bryan Gillis thanked golfer Scottie Scheffler for having released his own statement praising Gillis.
“This was a chaotic situation for everyone involved,” he said. “Ensuring the safety of everyone in the vicinity was my utmost priority. Mr. Scheffler and I both agree that there will be no ill will over this going forward. Instead of giving a negative public reaction, he chose to speak with dignity, humility, and respect. My family and I appreciate that.”
But then Gillis took to slamming the myriad of critics who’ve been relentlessly bashing him for having arrested Scheffler, including Scheffler’s own attorney, Steve Romines.

“It was unfortunate and disturbing to hear Steve Romines’ commentary today claiming that a ‘false arrest’ was made and for him to challenge my honesty and integrity,” Gillis said. “I’d be surprised and disappointed if Mr. Scheffler actually had any part in making those statements.”
“To be clear, I was drug by the car, I went to the ground, and I received visible injuries to my knees and wrist. I’m going to recover from it, and it will be ok. This is the extent of my commentary on the incident,” he added.
This statement comes about two weeks after Scheffler’s arrest and one week after the famous golfer issued his own statement explaining what had occurred. In the statement, he generously defended Gillis.
“The officer that took me to the jail was very kind,” he said. “He was great. We had a nice chat in the car, that kind of helped calm me down. I was sitting there waiting to kind of go in and I asked him, I was like, ‘Hey, excuse me, can you just come hang out with me for a few minutes so I can calm down.’ I was never angry.”
“I was just in shock, and I think my body was just—I was shaking the whole time. I was shaking for like an hour. It was definitely a new feeling for me. He came out and we had a nice chat and then the officers inside the jail were tremendous. A couple of them made some jokes I think when they figured out who I was and what happened and how I ended up there,” he added.

Scheffler went on to praise some of the other officers who were involved as well.
“This one older officer looked at me as I was doing my fingerprints or whatever, and he looks at me and he goes, ‘So do you want the full experience today?’” he said. “I kind of looked at him, and I was like, I don’t know how to answer that.”
“He’s like, ‘Come on, man, you want a sandwich?’ I was like, sure, I’ll take a sandwich. I hadn’t eaten breakfast yet. I mean, they were really kind. I’m grateful that we have such strong police, and they’re our protectors out there, and like I said, we just got into a chaotic situation this morning. That’s really all it was,” he added.
According to various reports, Scheffler was en route to the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville for round two of a tournament when he drove right into the scene of a fatal car accident involving a man crossing the street being hit by a shuttle bus.
But instead of stopping, he tried to skirt around it, thus triggering a confrontation that eventually led to him dragging a cop with his car (Gillis) and subsequently being arrested.
Following Scheffler’s arrest and all the media attention that was directed at it, the charges against him were ultimately dropped — despite him having dragged an officer with his car.
Meanwhile, the public for some reason remains angry toward Gillis, as seen in the tweets below from people responding to his statement (*Language Warning):

I once again, say Scottie is a better guy than me. I’d be going scorched earth. This statement was completely unnecessary

A man who can never be wrong & has to take the last swing is a dangerous man, officer or not. The hole he keeps digging for himself will only get bigger. Good luck to the next person who falls in.

Tough look here, no one even wanted his statement and he still comes out and further puts his foot in his mouth. Man you tried to lay false charges and if it was anyone else you would have gotten away with it.
Gillis’ entire arrest record needs to come under scrutiny. disgrace.
