CV NEWS FEED // The Diocese of Wichita has launched a major effort to support Catholic educators through its new school-based endowments for teacher salaries.
The Diocese announced in a June 5 news release that it would be incorporating the endowments as a part of its One Family, Fully Alive in Christ! capital campaign. The campaign intends to raise $15 million to provide long-term endowment funding for all 38 of its schools.
The Diocese explained that its decision to establish the endowments was motivated by a long-term vision to foster future growth of its schools. Currently, parish collections serve as the main source of funding for Catholic schools and teacher salaries. The diocese noted that this method of fundraising would continue alongside the campaign.
“Our Catholic schools are remarkable in many ways,” Bishop Carl A. Kemme stated in the release, emphasizing the dedication of diocesan teachers and administrators, who daily “touch the lives of the young people they serve and fulfill our mission to make missionary disciples for Jesus Christ.”
“This diocesan campaign is an important way for us to strengthen our schools and further support the work and ministry of our teachers for many years to come,” the Bishop added.
Individual parish endowment funds for teacher salaries will be established for each school at the end of 2024, and deposits into the endowments will take place in January of each year, starting in 2025.
Given the structure and timing of the campaign, the Diocese predicts endowments should be ready for distribution by July 2027.
“Through this campaign, we are planting seeds that will grow and bear fruit in the future,” Diocesan Director of Development Mike Wescott stated in the release.
