In a bid to highlight a controversy involving Donald Trump, a Biden-affiliated TikTok account found itself overwhelmed with questions about inflation instead.
This came as the online battle for influence on TikTok has taken a sharp turn over the past few days, after Trump joined the platform over the weekend.
The former president quickly amassed millions of followers on the app, turning Biden’s whole account into a total laughing stock.
X users swiftly ripped Biden for his small TikTok following compared to the massive following Trump has attracted since Saturday, Resist the Mainstream reported.
Conservatives especially torched Biden’s numbers considering he has been on the platform for four months, while Trump has only been on it for a matter of days.
President Biden’s team posted a video Sunday night on the BidenHQ TikTok account to get ahead of Trump joining the platform, Daily Mail reported.
The video featured a story about a former producer alleging that Trump used a racial slur during the filming of the first season of “The Apprentice.”
The outlet stated that an unidentified female influencer attempted to shame Trump as a “lifelong racist,” recounting several incidents.
The post quickly went viral for unintended reasons, however, as commenters flooded the video with questions about pressing economic issues.
Questions included “Why is my rent expensive?” and “Why can’t I afford anything?”
Others echoed concerns with statements like “I can’t afford eggs” and “I can’t wait to afford a house.”
Daily Mail noted that the video has largely sparked complaints over inflation and the cost of living, despite garnering over 1.4 million views and 1,000 comments.
The End Wokeness account on X commented, “HAHAHA this is epic. Biden’s campaign is desperately trying to win black voters on TikTok… it’s backfiring spectacularly.”
The video began with the influencer urging viewers to see a new report about Trump, cutting to a clip of Omarosa Manigault Newman suggesting the racial slur tape might be real.
Manigault Newman, a former Apprentice contestant and Trump White House aide, claimed to have heard the tape, which Trump’s team has consistently denied exists.
“Anyone notice a pattern here? This is the same man who called to execute innocent black men and spread racist lies about the first black president. Donald Trump is exactly who we all knew he was: a lifelong racist,” the influencer said.
“Black voters kicked Donald Trump out of the White House in 2020 and we’re going to do it again in November,” she continued.
Spokesman Steven Cheung dismissed recent allegations against Donald Trump as “a completely fabricated and bull**** story that was already peddled in 2016.”
“Nobody took it seriously then, and they won’t now, because it’s fake news,” he added in his fiery statement.
Trump’s TikTok debut included a montage of his appearance at a UFC fight in New Jersey, mere days after becoming a convicted felon.
The 13-second video captures Trump entering the arena, waving to fans, and posing for selfies.
UFC president Dana White introduced Trump, stating, “The president is now on TikTok,” to which the former president responded directly to the camera, “It’s my honor.”
Trump’s inaugural TikTok post, captioned “Launching my TikTok at UFC 302,” has already garnered over four million followers, vastly surpassing the Biden-Harris HQ account.
