A clip of Daily Wire host Andrew Klavan confirming why Candace Owens was fired from the company has sent shockwaves throughout social media.
X users swiftly blasted Klavan for his remarks, especially considering his explanation contradicts what the public was told shortly after Owens was terminated from the outlet.
Klavan explained during a recent interview that Owens’ use of the phrase “Christ is King” played into the former host’s firing, Resist the Mainstream reported Thursday.
Klavan also noted that Owens receiving praise from Nick Feuntes played a key part as well.
Owens has since responded to Klavan’s remarks, stating, “I have never treated him or any person I have worked alongside with anything but overwhelming kindness.”
“My conscience is therefore clear,” she added.
Conservatives like Lauren Chen were quick to blast Klavan and the Daily Wire as the clip made its rounds on X.
“Is this the so-called ‘woke right’ that I’ve been hearing so much about? Needing a safe space because of comments someone made about a coworker?” Chen said initially.
She later added, “Also interesting that per his initial podcast about Candace, Klavan mentions the two weren’t close, but that he’d never had anything but pleasant personal interactions with Candace.”
“Despite all the allegations of antisemitism, I’ve yet to hear one of Candace’s many Jewish colleagues have a story about Candace ever displayed any actual bigotry or hatred toward them personally,” she continued in the subsequent post, to which Owens responded.
Klavan explained at one point in the controversial clip the lead up to Owens’ termination.
“There were things going out over our air that [Owens] was saying that were being at least perceived I have to say as deeply anti-Semetic,” he shared.
“So that Nick Feuntes who is a virtually nazi–there’s no space between him and what nazi would be saying–was praising her to the skies,” he continued.
“I don’t want Nick Feuntes to be praised,” Klavan would later say, adding, “I don’t want him to have a happy day.”
Klavan further recounted, “Some of us were being praised in religious terms, and one of the ways this was happening was the phrase ‘Christ is King.’”
“Now, as I said repeatedly on the show,” he said, “we believe this.”
“I also believe in the cross of Christ but if you burn the cross of Christ on somebody’s lawn its no longer the cross of Christ it’s just a vehicle, a symbol of your toxic hatred,” he said in the final moments of the heavily scrutinized clip.
Some users weighed in to echo Chen’s sentiments and blast Klavan, while others defended the Daily Wire for its firing of Owens.
“This wasn’t about needing a ‘safe space.’ This was about Jeremy not being able financially support conspiratorial Jew-hatred in good conscience,” The Babylon Bee’s Managing Editor Joel Barry said in response to Chen’s initial post.
Chen then replied, “If this is how you classify Candace’s views, do you believe her views on BLM to be conspiratorial black hatred? Curious DW was fine with her criticisms of black individuals, yet not Jewish individuals.”
Barry retorted, “Daily Wire has always been fine with her criticism of Jewish individuals. All DW personalities have participated in criticism of leftists who happen to be Jews–like Soros, Bernie Sanders, etc.”
“They (including Ben) have also aggressively criticized the ADL and SPLC, which uses fighting against antisemitism as a cloak for leftist/communist causes,” he added. “What Candace was engaged in was beyond that. DW hosts have graciously not disclosed everything, I imagine, but I think there was probably more going on that made it clear she was going the full groyper route.
Another user ripped Barry by writing, “If there was a woke right, this is it. Complaining that people are associating with persona non grata like the evil groypers. Joel is woke.”
