On Saturday afternoon, hundreds of supporters lined the streets of Newport Beach, CA, as former President Donald Trump passed through the area for a fundraiser.
Supporters could be seen lining the path of the president’s motorcade, many dressed in red, white, and blue clothing, while holding up signs reading, “Welcome, President Trump” and “Trump 2024, Take America Back.”
This is the latest stop in Trump’s trip to California, where he will be at a fundraising event in the affluent SoCal neighborhood. Tickets for the event, which will be held at the Harbor Island home of John and Kimberly Word, and hosted by tech CEO Palmer Luckey, cost between 3,300 and $100,000, per the Orange County Register.
This comes just one day after a similar event in Beverly Hills, hosted by businessman Lee Samson, a board member of the Republican Jewish Coalition and owner of a chain of nursing homes.
On Thursday, Trump was in attendance at an event in San Francisco, hosted by former PayPal executive David Sacks, and venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya. RTM previously reported that he raised approximately $12 million at that event.
The fundraising efforts come just a week after Trump was convicted on all 34 counts in his New York trial by District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s prosecution team. Trump has yet to be sentenced, but the guilty verdict has led to a significant uptick in fundraising numbers for the former president.
The Register interviewed several attendees who were among those watching as Trump passed through the town. 55-year-old Michael Cooper said that seeing the former president was “super exciting.”
“He was waving,” Cooper said. “I loved coming out here and just showing support for the country and him, especially in light of all his legal woes. … It’s important to be here and cheer him on. We believe in him. He gives us so much hope for our future.”
Casey Lloyd, a resident of the local Linda Isle, was excited to catch a glimpse of the motorcade, saying “I’m here to support Trump,”
Lloyd said he believes it’s important for everyone to vote for the candidate they think will be the best for the country. “I’m very excited to see so many people caring for America again. God bless us all.”
Terry Shifflet, 53, of Eastvale, said that Trump’s recent conviction only made him want to support the former president more.
“We’re Trump supporters, die-hard Republicans. Things are going the wrong way for our country,” said Shifflet, expressing frustration over Biden’s much-maligned withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021, and the wars in both Ukraine and Gaza.
“We shouldn’t be in some of these wars now,” he said.
“I like being around people who support President Trump,” said Blake Marnell, who traveled from San Diego to see the president. “Not everyone has an opportunity to talk politics where they work or with family. Here we can.”
24-year-old Danny Hannah, a resident of Mission Viejo, said that many of his friends who “were never interested in politics that are now getting into it to support Trump.”
“I want my future children to grow up in a country that’s theirs and has a future,” said Hannah.
