Three teenagers have been taken into custody for allegedly vandalizing a Pride flag-painted intersection in Spokane, Washington, by leaving skid marks with Lime scooters.
According to the Spokane Police Department, a 911 call was received on June 5, shortly after 9 p.m., reporting multiple individuals on scooters “causing damage to the newly painted Pride mural.”
Four suspects were reportedly observed damaging the mural, with several witnesses stating that one of the individuals shouted obscenities before departing the area.

Officers noted that the mural had “black scuff marks consistent with scooter wheels,” left across it. This mural had recently been repainted following a May 16 incident in which multiple individuals poured a liquid on the mural and set it on fire, as reported by KREM.
Approximately 30 minutes after the 911 call, officers apprehended three suspects who matched the descriptions provided by witnesses and video surveillance.
Ruslan V.V. Turko, 19, was charged with first-degree malicious mischief and booked into the Spokane County Jail. Two minor suspects faced the same charge and were booked into the Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center. In Washington, this charge is classified as a class B felony.
A woman who claimed to have witnessed the incident, Kaylee Gaines McGee, told the outlet, “we’re not gonna sit by as we watch people deliberately commit a hate crime like right in the middle of downtown.”
“We see that you have done this thing,” McGee said. “People don’t just go and do that without intention. You don’t destroy symbols without intention behind it.”
Turko was released on the condition that he avoids the mural and refrains from contacting the other teens arrested. Prosecutors had sought a $15,000 bail.
