A woman walked into a hair salon in Burbank, California, saying she felt horrible about her appearance.
The woman, who was later identified as Lavette “Ashley” Walter, went to de Cielo Salon and Spa, located in the 900 block of West Magnolia Boulevard, and received a five-hour treatment, which included coloring and extensions, said Burbank Police Officer Joshua Kendrick.
“Ashley” visited de Cielo Salon and Spa but gave no last name. She told Samantha, a stylist, that she had an appointment — even though she didn’t.
But Ashley did have an urgent request. She said she was supposed to take her engagement photos the next day and desperately wanted to feel good about herself.
Feeling sorry for the helpless bride-to-be, Samantha kindly booked her right there on the spot. There was so much work to do, like removing Ashley‘s hair extensions, coloring her hair, putting the extensions back in, and then more coloring.
Six hours later, when all was said and done, Ashley had received $900 in salon services.
But before going up to the counter to pay, the client asked to use the restroom and then slipped out the front door… without paying! Instead, she hurried outside to a white SUV with no license plates and took off. Unbelievable!
However, she didn’t realize that the entire thing was caught on the business’ surveillance camera.
With no idea who this woman actually was or her whereabouts, the salon posted the footage to its Facebook page. And what do you know? A stylist from another local salon claimed the suspect did the exact same thing to her!
The day after the surveillance footage went online, police received a tip from a citizen who recognized the woman, after which authorities identified her and issued a warrant for her arrest.
Walter, who police said has an extensive theft history, was located by Burbank detectives on Thursday driving near State Route 170 and Sherman Way.
Police stopped her and arrested her on suspicion of burglary. She was being held in lieu of $20,000 bail.
