A group of middle school students allegedly involved in a stolen vehicle led Houston police on a high-speed chase late Thursday night, resulting in multiple crashes and the death of a 12-year-old suspect. The pursuit began around 10 p.m. when officers noticed a gray Hyundai Sonata that had crashed into another vehicle while traveling at high speed.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspects fled, initiating the chase. The suspects’ car hit multiple vehicles during the pursuit ultimately crashing into three cars while trying to avoid a METRO bus.
Four suspects, all aged between 12 and 13, fled the disabled vehicle on foot. Officers caught and detained two of them who were treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.
When police returned to the suspects’ car, they discovered a 12-year-old suspect unresponsive inside. The juvenile was transported to a hospital to be treated, where he was pronounced dead.
The two remaining suspects, including the driver, are still on the run. Police have not released the identity of the deceased suspect or reported if any charges will be filed.
The occupants of the five vehicles hit by the suspects did not report any injuries. The investigation into the fatal high-speed chase is ongoing.
