A controversial moment at this year’s Cannes Film Festival captured surprisingly little attention, given that it involved an image of Jesus Christ — or, perhaps, that is precisely why the media lacked interest.
Massiel Taveras, a prominent Dominican actress, was caught on camera in a heated altercation with a female security agent on the red carpet. Taveras’ intention was to proudly display the train of her dress, which featured a striking image of Christ.
The dress, reportedly designed by Giannina Azar, featured a hand-painted image of Jesus Christ wearing the crown of thorns, and Taveras was visibly annoyed when security went hands-on to rush her along and prevent the actress from laying out the train of her dress.
Once inside the theater, Taveras was able to fully display the dress.
The actress shared an image of that moment on Instagram, along with a photo of the red carpet encounter.
The caption read: “YES it is ,Jesus Christ is in CANNES , this master piece , it is been created exclusively for this unforgettable night, the most valuable work of the legendary the extraordinary fashion designer @gianninaazar hand painted by the mega talented @yanpaez. EL CRISTO “ is the son of god , there he is for the very first time at the 77 #cannesfilmfestival #cannesfilmfestival2024 GLORY TO GOD.”

Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on the social media platform X:
Amazing. They might be fuming in their minds. And she is determined in her mission. Satan might win some battles but God wins the war.

Wow. We all know this but it’s shocking to see them try so hard to keep her moving and roll up her gown. Good for her for not having it.

Exactly, anything that is good, pure, and TRUE is hated by the world and by the prince of this world. At the same time, anything that gets you away from God, whatever it may be, is good and just to the enemy of our soul.
