Watchman: Daily Devotional
Some individuals are taken aback to learn that following Christ isn’t a walk in the park. When we commit our lives to Christ, we are instantly met by an enemy, the devil, who seeks to destroy us.
Every day, the spiritual fight rages, and it won’t stop until we find refuge in Jesus’ embrace.
The apostle Paul told Timothy, “I have fought the good fight, I have completed the race, and I have been loyal.” Now I wait for my reward, the crown of righteousness that the Lord, the upright judge, will bestow upon me on the day of his return. “And the prize is not just for me but for all who anxiously look forward to his coming” (2 Timothy 4:7–8 NLT).
Paul’s use of word for “battle” alludes to ancient Greek competitions in which men would utilize their whole physical might to compete against one another.
This serves as a timely reminder that progress is a hallmark of the Christian life. The instant we cease progress, we shall regress. For this reason, we must equip ourselves. Let’s get suited up.
In order to withstand the devil’s schemes, Christians are admonished to “put on all of God’s armor” (Ephesians 6:11). For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood adversaries, but rather against wicked rulers, authorities, powerful powers in this dark world, and demonic spirits in the high realms (verses 11–12 NLT).
Isn’t it nice to fantasize about getting to a point in our Christian life where we’re immune to all trials and tribulations? But unfortunately, that won’t be the case. The conflict will continue till the end of time.
As a result, we must keep our shields up. It’s crucial that we keep our wits about us and always go on.
