The Texas Department of Health has appointed a pro-life OB-GYN to its review committee that compiles data on pregnancy-related deaths.
According to AP News, the department announced Dr. Ingrid Skop’s appointment to the Texas Maternal Mortality and Morbidity Review Committee last week. Skop, the vice president and director of medical affairs for the pro-life Charlotte Lozier Institute, will begin serving her term on June 1.
According to her bio on Charlotte Lozier Institute’s website, Skop has well over 30 years of experience as a practicing OB-GYN and has contributed extensively to research and policy-making geared towards fostering respect and dignity for every human life. Skop has been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals regarding her research on maternal mortality, abortion, and women’s health.
She has also provided expert testimony for both state and federal court cases related to legislation on abortion, “standing firm against prominent pro-abortion politicians who choose not to follow the science regarding fetal heartbeat and development.”

Skop will act as the committee’s rural representative, according to AP News.
The committee is expected to provide data to the Legislature regarding best practices and potential policy changes in the state on abortion laws as they relate to the health of mothers.
