COLUMBUS, OH – In a series of violent outbreaks, the city of Columbus faced two separate shootings overnight, leading to the death of four people. One of the instances was regarded as a mass shooting on the city’s north side.
Reports of a shooting came in to Columbus’ police department around 2:45 a.m. from the intersection of East 5th Avenue and Summit Street. This area, positioned between Weinland Park and Italian Village, is located just north of Downtown Columbus.
According to law enforcement, the incident at the junction resulted in six victims, three of whom were declared dead at the scene. One person is in critical condition, while the remaining two are considered stable.
In response to the violence, the Columbus Police Department (CPD) shut down the impacted roads. Officials expect the closure to endure several hours as officers continue their investigations.
Following this, East 5th Avenue, stretching from North High Street to North 4th Street, has been closed off. Summit Street is also inaccessible, from East 7th Avenue to 3rd Avenue, due to the shootings.
In a separate but nearly coinciding incident, another shooting unfolded in east Columbus, preceding the mass shooting by approximately two hours. Authorities were alerted to gun violence at 12:35 a.m., happening on the 4100 block of Vineshire Drive. A man who had sustained a gunshot wound was identified and unfortunately pronounced dead at the site only minutes later, at 12:46 a.m.
