On Friday, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), who is believed to be a frontrunner in the hunt for a VP spot in a possible second Trump administration, made a major prediction about black voters in America, as Biden has continuously lost support from the traditionally Democratic group, suggesting that they would instead vote for Trump in “historic” numbers.
This comes as Biden has planned a weekend in Georgia and Michigan, in hopes of bringing back support from the black community in those states. Scott argued that the visit is nothing more than “pandering” to a community whose struggles are exacerbated while he’s at the helm.
“For 52 consecutive paychecks, Black folks, like the rest of Americans, lost spending power, because inflation was higher than wage increases. What does that mean? It means devastation to single moms like the one that raised me,” Scott told Fox News.
“The one thing that we can expect from the Biden administration is more of the same. More misery, more devastation, more catastrophes. That’s one of the reasons why you see so many Black voters shifting to the GOP under Trump. Why? Because Donald Trump delivered,” he continued.
Earlier on Friday, Biden’s campaign announced that he would be attending an event in Atlanta on Saturday, with a focus on engaging black voters. On Sunday, Biden is set to deliver the commencement at Morehouse College, a historically black liberal arts college for men, then meet with small business owners in Detroit and deliver an address to the NAACP in Michigan in the evening.
“No administration has delivered for Black America like President Biden and Vice-President Harris,” the Biden campaign claimed.
“This campaign will not take a single voter for granted,” wrote Biden campaign senior adviser Trey Baker. “We are not, and will not, parachute into these communities at the last minute, expecting their vote.”
Polls indicate that Trump has gained support with Black voters, while Biden has lost it, in both swing states and across the nation. Scott argued that the shift was driven by the first Trump administration’s strong economy for Black Americans.
“We had the strongest, most powerful and inclusive economy in the history of the country in my lifetime. Unemployment for Black folks [was] under 6% for the first time ever; the wages growing at the bottom faster than the top. He also supported my opportunity zones, bringing nearly $70 billion committed to the poorest communities,” Scott said, in reference to his “opportunity zones” legislation, which brought in $29 Billion to low-income areas.
“[Biden] sometimes says, ‘You can’t be Black if you don’t vote for me.’ Or he’ll say something as asinine as ‘Republicans want to put you back in chains.’ But last time I checked, the only person restraining Black economic growth is Joe Biden and Bidenomics. So please don’t pander to people smart enough to smell what you’re cooking, and it’s a rat,” he said.
“Historic shifts towards President Trump are already happening. Here’s what we know: Without question, the pandering tour is because without the Black vote, there is no Democrat party,” Scott added.
Scott was later asked if he was still open to being Trump’s running mate.
“There’s no doubt that it would be such an honor for anyone to even be in the conversation. But this should not be about me or any other potential VP, as they describe us. This should only be about America’s future and who gets us there the fastest. That’s Donald Trump,” Scott replied. “Whatever I can do to make sure we have four more years of Donald Trump, count me in.”
