In a fiery interview on “State of the Union,” CNN host Jake Tapper confronted Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) about her confrontation with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) during a recent GOP Oversight Committee hearing.
The clash erupted during a late-night session of the Oversight Committee as members were voting on whether to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress. Greene’s comment about Crockett’s eyelashes sparked a heated exchange, culminating in Crockett’s pointed remarks about Greene’s appearance.

Tapper wasted no time pressing Crockett on her response, pointing out the controversy surrounding her decision to print her retort on merchandise to raise funds for Democratic causes.
“You‘ve really embraced what you said. You‘re printing it on swag, I think we have an image of the shirt here that you‘re selling to help raise money to elect Democrats. How would you respond to say it‘s inappropriate to respond to an attack on somebody‘s physical appearance. You hear the congresswoman AOC say you shouldn‘t be attacking somebody‘s physical appearance, but then you did the same thing. You attack her physical [appearance],” Tapper asked, referencing criticism from figures like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
Crockett defended her actions, emphasizing that she sought clarification on the proceedings and did not directly attack Greene. She argued that Greene’s disruptive behavior warranted consequences, but the committee chair prioritized other concerns. She also claimed that Greene’s comment was “racist.”

“I think her specifically doing it to me, yes that was the intent.”

Despite Tapper’s insistence that Crockett’s response escalated the situation, the congresswoman stood firm, asserting that she did not regret her actions. She criticized supporters of former President Donald Trump for their perceived disregard for rules and the law.
The dispute between Crockett and Greene drew attention from both sides of the aisle, with Ocasio-Cortez calling for Greene’s remarks to be stricken from the record. The hearing concluded with a vote to hold Garland in contempt, highlighting ongoing tensions within Congress.
