On Wednesday, police arrested a Florida man who allegedly killed his dog a day after adopting him.
Pinellas County police said Domingo Rodriguez, 66, adopted Dexter, a 4-year-old pitbull mix, from Pinellas County Animal Services on May 10. Four days later, the dog was reportedly found decapitated and wrapped in plastic in mangroves at Fort Desoto Park, according to WTVT.
The dog was microchipped, leading police to Rodriguez. Rodgriguez allegedly claimed the dog possibly ran away the night he adopted him. Pinellas County police said he also admitted to going to Fort Desoto Park on May 11 — three days before the dog was discovered there deceased.
Rodriguez’s wife told police that she woke up on May 11 to find both her husband and dog were gone. Police also noted that bags resembling the ones at the crime scene were in the home.
Rodriguez was charged with animal cruelty and disposal of bodies of dead animals. He is free on a $5,000 bond.
