On Monday, North Carolina officials said a woman who was fatally shot last month died by suicide.
Robeson County Medical Examiner Dr. Richard Johnson determined that Mica Miller, 30, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He also concluded that Miller was not shot in the back of the head, dispelling rumors about her manner of death, according to WPDE.

Mica Miller’s husband, John-Paul Miller, claimed she fatally shot herself in the head at Lumber River State Park in Lumberton on April 27. John-Paul Miller — a pastor at Solid Rock Church — said his late wife suffered from mental health issues for years. Since then, Solid Rock Church has stripped him of all ministerial responsibilities.
Citing court records, the New York Post reported that Mica Miller filed for divorce in October 2023. According to The Robesonian, her family is claiming she also sought a no-contact order days before her death.
In light of the medical examiner’s report, Robeson County Sheriff Burnis Wilkins said his department will provide more information about this case on Tuesday.
“Sheriff Burnis Wilkins has scheduled a meeting with the family of Mica and will be releasing more detailed information to substantiate the medical examiner findings tomorrow evening,” Robeson County police said on Facebook. “Sheriff Wilkins is also asking for everyone to please await the full timeline of events before making assumptions and coming to conclusions.”
