With just six months away from general elections, Donald Trump’s allies are already gearing up to execute his plan of launching a massive immigration crackdown, according to Wall Street Journal’s sources.
The anonymous source told the media outlet that they aim to stop the continuous entry of illegal aliens into the country, subvert Joe Biden’s open border policy, and draft deportation plans, which the former president dubbed as “the biggest deportation effort” in the history of the US.
However, Trump’s senior campaign advisers, Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita, were quick to warn of any information coming out from unofficial sources and criticized the media for being too willing to use “anonymous sourcing” to draw speculation on Trump’s administration.
“Unless a message is coming directly from President Trump or an authorized member of his campaign team, no aspect of future presidential staffing or policy announcements should be deemed official,” they said.
However, former Trump administration officials are hopeful that the former president will adopt or consider some of these plans if he clinched reelection. These efforts are also to avoid previous experiences where Trump had to dismiss former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, the head of his transition team, and reject all the proposals of his team.
According to sources, among the plans was to discuss various methods to expedite asylum hearings, compel countries to take back illegal migrants who needed to return to their homeland, and junk all deportation protections imposed under the Biden administration.
Those who are involved with the plan cited South American countries like Panama and areas in Africa that could become partners in securing asylum arrangements, similar to the one clinched by Trump in 2020 with Guatemala, where migrants from El Salvador and Honduras are allowed to seek asylum in areas closer to home.
Trump’s advisers are also looking into overcoming constraints related to deporting illegal aliens who entered the US during Biden’s term. Unfortunately, at this time, it is against the law to send them back to their home countries.
People are also asking who they think should lead the immigration campaign. Stephen Miller, who crafted Trump’s immigration plan in 2016, is expected to make a comeback.
Trump’s former associates are also recommending former Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Tom Homan to be his “border czar,” a role that does not require Senate confirmation or appointment from the Department of Homeland Security secretary.
Homan said that he would consider the position if it was formally offered as he supports Trump’s “historic deportation operation.”
