Bill Maher has been a constant thorn in the side of the “woke” activist left and he once again sided against them by defending embattled Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker.
On Friday’s edition of HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher,” the comic rejected the ginned-up controversy over the NFL player’s remarks at a Catholic college’s commencement in which he spoke out against abortion, the central organizing tenet of the modern Democratic Party and the cornerstone of Joe Biden’s reelection bid.
During a panel discussion with his guests, the host jabbed the left for turning the devoutly religious NFL player into what he mockingly called “history’s greatest monster.”

“I can’t express how much this guy is not like me,” Maher said, noting that his hedonistic lifestyle is very unlike Butker’s. “He’s religious. He loves marriage. He loves kids… And he’s now history’s greatest monster.”
“Again, I don’t agree with much with this guy, but I don’t get the thing. He said, talking to the women here, ‘Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world.’ Ok, that seems fairly, like, modern. ‘But I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.’ I don’t see what the big crime is. I really don’t,” the old-school liberal host added.
“And I think this is part of the problem people have with the left is that lots of people in this country are like this. Like he’s saying some of you may go on to lead successful careers, but a lot of you are excited about this other way that people- everybody used to be, and now can’t that be a choice too?” Maher asked.
“And I feel like they feel very put upon, like there’s only one way to be a good person and that’s to get an advanced degree from one of those a**hole factories like Harvard,” he added, a reference to the elite Ivy League institution of higher learning.
Maher later noted the hypocrisy in the faux outrage about Butker’s commencement speech remarks.
“I find it very ironic that he’s saying, ‘You know what, in my world, you know, we like the women to stay at home and just have babies’ and the college kids and the young people find this absolutely abhorrent, but they’re demonstrating for Hamas, who make that the law,” he said. “It’s not just an opinion in Hamas, that you stay home and have the babies. They will enforce you [to do] that.”
The NFL condemned Butker’s defense of traditional Christian views, a sad look for a league that was once a dominant cultural defender of traditional American values.
“Harrison Butker gave a speech in his personal capacity. His views are not those of the NFL as an organization. The NFL is steadfast in our commitment to inclusion, which only makes our league stronger,” said the league’s DEI czar Jonathan Beane. “His views are not those of the NFL as an organization. The NFL is steadfast in our commitment to inclusion, which only makes our league stronger.”
