As swarms of anti-Israel protestors attempt to seize control of our nation’s universities in the name of Palestine, it’s becoming clear that not all of them are students.
Take James Carlson, aka Cody Carlson, aka Cody Tarlow.
The 40-year-old was arrested by NYPD when they raided the encampment at Columbia University on Tuesday. Police have identified him as a “possible leader” of the thugs who broke into Hamilton Hall and barricaded themselves inside, a City Hall source told the New York Post.
It turns out, Carlson, described by a high-ranking police source as a “longtime anarchist,” has zero known ties to the university.
In fact, he is allegedly “a professional agitator and limousine liberal — the scion of millionaire ad execs who owns a $3.4 million Brooklyn townhouse, has a model babymama and a stepmom dating John Cougar Mellencamp,” according to The Post.

Property records and online listings show that Carlson purchased a $2.3 million Park Slope three-story townhouse in 2019, complete with a carriage house and four wood-burning fireplaces.
One of three children of Richard “Dick” Tarlow and his wife, Sandy Carlson Tarlow, both high-profile advertising executives, Carlson’s rap sheet dates back to 2005.
Both parents are now deceased. Dick Tarlow boasted such clients as Revlon, Ralph Lauren, Cuisinart, and Pottery Barn, and Sandy Carlson Tarlow was credited for “defining the “public face of Ralph Lauren,” according to her obituary, The Post reports.
When the father died in 2022, he left at least a $20 million estate, court papers reveal.
“Dick Tarlow and his second wife – Carlson’s stepmom, Kristin Kehrberg — lived together in a $15 million Fifth Avenue mansion,” according to The Post. “The widow is now dating John Cougar Mellencamp, Page Six reported last summer.”
A professional rabble-rouser, Carlson reportedly has “two children, including one with a model, blonde bombshell Kim Heyrman.”
Carlson is estranged from his family.
“We don’t talk to him,” a woman who answered the phone at his sister’s home told The Post on Friday. “Leave us alone. He is out of our lives for so many years.”

Carlson was charged with burglary, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, conspiracy, and criminal trespassing when he was arrested on Wednesday. Following his arrest, he caught another charge — criminal mischief — after he demolished a camera inside a One Police Plaza holding cell, according to police sources.
“After his Wednesday arrest at Columbia, cops additionally charged Carlson with a hate crime, assault and petit larceny for allegedly lighting an Israel supporter’s flag aflame and hitting the 22-year-old in the face with a rock during an April protest, cops said,” according to The Post.
The millionaire’s penchant for mayhem goes back “to at least 2005, when he was charged in San Francisco for participating in the violent ‘West Coast Anti-Capitalist Mobilization and March Against the G8,’ where protesters cracked a police officer’s skull, nearly killing him, and attempted to set a police cruiser ablaze, according to a City Hall source and news reports.”
Though the charges were ultimately dropped in 2007, Carlson was charged “at the time with suspicion of attempted lynching, malicious mischief, battery to a police officer, aggravated assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon and willful resistance to a police officer that results in serious bodily injury, according to the source,” The Post reports.
