Secretary of the Treasury, Janet Yellen, gave an interesting speech a few days ago in Sedona, Arizona at the John McCain Institute. She pronounced that her address would veer from the strict subject of the economy, because of the importance of certain pillars that are necessary to ‘our’ democracy: pillars that uphold our ideals as espoused in the founding documents of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. The three “most important pillars of democracy,” according to the Secretary, are “accountability, economic freedom, and strong independent institutions that uphold the rule of law.”
Among the institutions Yellen mentioned as vital to accountability is a “Free Press” which “uncovers corruption and wrongdoing.” Perhaps the Secretary will alert the mainstream media as to their role in a democracy of holding the government accountable by informing them that Congressional Committees have uncovered over twenty phantom corporations held by Biden family members, which have received over $25 Million, while producing no products, nor affording any services other than an inside track to U.S. government policy. Isn’t it time the media started investigating?
The Secretary also stated that government is held accountable through elections: “In a democracy, free and fair elections give citizens the opportunity to reelect or remove their leaders at regular intervals, affirming the country’s direction or calling for change.” Perhaps Yellen would agree with the vast majority of U.S. citizens on the following: that in every state and at every polling station every person voting should have a valid ID checked to ensure that they are citizens; that paper ballots should be used so elections can be fairly audited; and that vote counting should stop on election day, so there can be no opportunities for fraud.
Yellen went on to laud the fact that our democracy is accountable because: “checks and balances limit the power of each part of government.” She might remind Joe Biden that the power of the purse is Congress’s exclusive province under our Constitution, and any $600 Billion student loan bailout is up to the people’s representative house, not his Executive office; oh yes, the head of the other branch of our government, the Supreme Court, already told him that…
Another pillar of democracy, is “economic freedom,” Secretary Yellen beamed that “Individuals and firms can trust that arrangements…will not change overnight and will be fairly enforced, no matter who is in power.” The Secretary may need apprising that immediately upon Biden taking office, the amount of federal land parcels put up for lease for drilling essential fossil fuels, was reduced “overnight” to being 80% below industry expectation. With the same velocity and command, royalty rates for leases were increased for the first time since the 1920’s… by 50%. The effects of this abrupt change in policy effects mostly red states…
Meanwhile, Joe Biden’s $6.9 Trillion budget pours $52 Billion into “tackling the climate crises;” part of which goes literally to building windmills… The vast majority of these outpourings of federal spending goes to blue states… But it must be done, to fulfill the Paris Climate Accords goal for reducing carbon gas emissions by 50% by 2030! Does anyone remember voting for the Paris Climate Accords? Was anyone told what the effects might be? Does this sound like democracy?
Regarding a general economic principle, Madame Secretary, when government lavishly spends money on windmills (made by their political friends) with no accountability, while undertaking to administrate a regulatory strangling to 80% of the nation’s energy supply (and their political opponents), there will be an inflationary spiraling.
As for American firms, implementing regulations that no one in the U.S. ever voted for, has cost the Ford Motor company $1.3 Billion in losses in the first quarter of this year alone, attempting to abide the regulations of a Paris Accord.
As to the individuals Janet Yellen sites, according to House Energy chair, Cathy McMorris, “Biden’s energy crisis means higher costs for farmers…and higher costs at the grocery store for everyone.”
Yellen did take the time to note, that “winners are not predetermined, or subject to arbitrary or unpredictable whims of political leaders.” Nice thought.
The most important pillar is, as Yellen stated: “democracy is associated with strong independent institutions that uphold the rule of law.” That is a statement on which everyone, one would think, can agree.
So, what were Jim Comey’s FBI and John Brennan’s CIA doing creating and metastasizing the Russia Hoax lie that consumed America and Trump’s presidency for two years at the behest of the Democrat Party? What was Rod Rosenstien’s DOJ doing when he appointed Special Counsel, Robert Mueller, when he himself knew all the time that there was absolutely no basis, in fact, regarding any connection between Trump or his associates and Russia – none. Yet, the DOJ opened an investigation costing $30 Million that unleashed an angry crew of democrats to further persecute an entirely innocent President, while he held office. These actions were independent of any democratic ethics or decency.
So, what is Merrick Garland’s DOJ doing instigating 6 spurious civil and criminal court cases around the country to maim and muzzle Joe Biden’s only opponent?
Yellen finally said, “There’s a name for the respect for the law that’s typical of democracy, it’s called ‘legitimacy.’ Absent such legitimacy, democracy collapses.”
Who is Janet Yellen? Is she for the party that has done so much to destroy the pillars of our democracy?
