A major Catholic group is calling the National Football League’s commitment to diversity into question over its treatment of Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker.
Butker, who has been instrumental in the NFL team’s three recent Super Bowl wins, has been savagely attacked by left-wing activists and the biased media over remarks during the commencement ceremony at a Catholic college last weekend.
A devout Christian, the star kicker’s pro-family speech in which he was critical of “degenerate cultural values” and slammed President Joe Biden over his championing of abortion, led to a vicious bullying campaign led by the usual suspects, and a petition demanding that he be booted off the Chiefs.
Instead of standing by its player – or not saying anything at all about his free speech – the NFL instead condemned, throwing him under the bus while claiming that it “is steadfast in our commitment to inclusion.”
Unless it applies to Catholics and the group CatholicVote sent a letter to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell about its claims amid a torrent of hatred and violent threats that have been directed at Butker since the speech. Also included on the letter was Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt.

The letter, which is signed by CatholicVote President Brian Burch, states, “The growing, hatred, intimidation, and now threats of violence against him for publicly defending our deeply-held beliefs represent the worst kind of anti-Catholic bigotry, and cannot be tolerated.
“A recent statement by the league distancing itself from Butker for his remarks calls into question your commitment to genuine diversity and inclusion, Indeed, the NFL proudly boasts that it ‘honors and celebrates the broad ranges of human difference among us, while also embracing the commonalities we share, and to provide each individual with the opportunity to achieve their full potential,” the letter continues, quoting the league’s own words.
“Does this inclusion include Catholics, pro-life Americans, mothers, and those who hold to traditional moral beliefs?” Burch asks. “We certainly hope you will continue to ignore the reckless calls for Mr. Butker to be canceled, or worse.”
“We understand not every American, or NFL fan for that matter may share the same opinions or beliefs as Mr. Butker,” the letter concludes. “We are hopeful however, that you do not intend to send a message to Catholics, or those that still uphold basic moral tenets of a civilized society that they are outsiders and no longer welcome.”
“To paraphrase a famous quote from NBA star Michael Jordan, ‘Catholics watch NFL games, too,” Burch wrote, closing the letter with zinger, a reference to the legendary Chicago Bulls great’s remark that “Republicans buy sneakers too,” on why the NBA’s GOAT declined to be political.
“Is the NFL saying Catholic views are not allowed in their league?” CatholicVote asked in a post to X, formerly known as Twitter.
Is the NFL saying Catholic views are not allowed in their league?

“Harrison Butker gave a speech in his personal capacity,” NFL’s senior vice president and chief diversity and inclusion officer Jonathan Beane said in a statement. “His views are not those of the NFL as an organization. The NFL is steadfast in our commitment to inclusion, which only makes our league stronger.”
The NFL has so far refrained from anything harsher than the statement but the pressure is intense for Goodell to drop the hammer on Butker and the “woke” mob isn’t going to be satisfied until he’s punished.
