The Justice Department indicted a longtime Democrat congressman and former President Donald J. Trump seems to think that things don’t add up.
On Friday, the DOJ announced that it had indicted Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) who it alleged used his office to influence U.S. foreign policy on Azerbaijan in exchange for bribes from an oil and gas company controlled by the former Soviet country.
Cuellar, whose congressional district is on the border, has been one of the Democratic party’s most vocal critics of President Joe Biden and his immigration policies, something that the presumptive GOP nominee suggested played a part in his being charged.
“Biden just Indicted Henry Cuellar because the Respected Democrat Congressman wouldn’t play Crooked Joe’s Open Border game. He was for Border Control, so they said, ‘Let’s use the FBI and DOJ to take him out!’ This is the way they operate. They’re a bunch of D.C. Thugs, and at some point they will be paying a very big price for what they have done to our Country. CROOKED JOE BIDEN IS A THREAT TO DEMOCRACY!” Trump said in a Sunday night Truth Social post.

Also indicted by the feds was the Lone Star State congressman’s wife, Imelda, who the DOJ alleged was a part of the $600,00 bribery scheme that involved a Mexican bank as well as Azerbaijan.
According to a Justice Department press release: Congressman Cuellar and Imelda Cuellar allegedly accepted approximately $600,000 in bribes from two foreign entities: an oil and gas company wholly owned and controlled by the Government of Azerbaijan, and a bank headquartered in Mexico City. The bribe payments were allegedly laundered, pursuant to sham consulting contracts, through a series of front companies and middlemen into shell companies owned by Imelda Cuellar, who performed little to no legitimate work under the contracts.”
“In exchange for the bribes paid by the Azerbaijani oil and gas company, Congressman Cuellar allegedly agreed to use his office to influence U.S. foreign policy in favor of Azerbaijan. In exchange for the bribes paid by the Mexican bank,” the DOJ said.

“I want to make it clear that my wife Imelda and I are innocent of these allegations,” Cuellar told reporters. The couple appeared in a Houston, TX federal court on Friday and were each released on a $100,000 bond.
Mr. and Mrs. Cuellar are charged with conspiracy to commit bribery, bribery of a federal official, conspiracy to commit honest services wire fraud, violating the ban on public officials acting as agents of a foreign principal, conspiracy to commit concealment money laundering and money laundering, according to the DOJ. If convicted, they could spend the rest of their lives behind bars.
In March, Cuellar was one of the Democrats who unveiled a new “border security” task force. He was also the victim of an armed carjacking near his Washington, D.C. office last year.
“These people are running a Gestapo administration,” Trump said at a Mar-a-Lago fundraiser over the weekend.
