A 10-year-old Indiana boy reportedly died by suicide earlier this month after enduring bullying at school.
According to WTHR, Sammy Teusch’s family said he was bullied up until the night he died on May 5. His father said the students first teased him about things like his glasses but it escalated to violence.
“He was beat up on the school bus, and the kids broke his glasses and everything, and I called the school, and I’m like, ‘What are you doing about this? It keeps getting worse, and worse, and worse. And it’s not getting any better. In fact, it’s getting worse,’” he said.
Though Teusch’s family claimed they contacted the school 20 times about bullying, Greenfield-Central Schools superintendent Dr. Harold Olin told WPTA that the parents nor Teusch ever reported the bullying. While Dr. Odin mentioned that the school administrators and a counselor had regular discussions with the family this year, he did not disclose what those conversations entailed.
According to WTHR, Teuch’s family believes he killed himself following constant harassment — including an incident that occurred in the bathroom. According to the Greenfield Reporter, police are investigating Teusch’s suicide and the bullying allegations made by his family.
