Democrats never let a tragedy go by without politically exploiting it, and Joe Biden just did it on Tuesday following the alleged shooting deaths of four police officers in North Carolina by a felon.
The man who allegedly killed the officers, 39-year-old Terry Clark Hughes Jr., was a serial felon who was barred by law from possessing a gun, but as gun control laws often do, it didn’t stop him from getting one anyway and using it to murder the four officers, one of whom was a Deputy U.S. Marshal.
Biden responded by proposing gun storage laws and other regulations for responsible gun owners.
“We must do more to protect our law enforcement officers. That means funding them – so they have the resources they need to do their jobs and keep us safe,” Biden said, according to a statement released by the White House.
“And it means taking additional action to combat the scourge of gun violence. Now. Leaders in Congress need to step up so that we ba A̶s̶s̶a̶u̶l̶t̶ Defense Weapons and high-capacity magazines, require safe storage of guns, and pass universal background checks and a national red flag law. Enough is enough,” he added.
None of these measures would have stopped what happened in Charlotte, N.C., this week, however. And for the record, 80 million legal gun owners committed no crimes with a firearm that day. Or any other day.
Biden did not reference WCNC’s report, which detailed Hughes serving “nearly a year in prison” after a 2012 arrest for felon in possession of a firearm following a high-speed chase, and noted that he “was arrested by CMPD on multiple drug charges in May 2021.” Hughes was released shortly after his 2021 arrest, Breitbart’s Awr Hawkins noted.
