Senator John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania) touts Governor Ron DeSantis’ law in Florida banning lab-processed meat.
His comments came as the Pennsylvania lawmaker is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech at the Florida Democratic Party’s Leadership Blue 2024 Event.
He wrote in his X account, “Pains me deeply to agree with Crash-and-Burn Ron, but I co-sign this.”
“As a member of @SenateAgDemocrats and as some dude who would never serve that slop to my kids, I stand with our American ranchers and farmers.”
DeSantis recently approved legislation that will prohibit the selling of lab-grown meat in Florida.
The governor remarked, “Florida is increasing beef production and encouraging residents to continue to consume and enjoy 100% real Florida beef.”
On his X account, DeSantis wrote: “Global elites want to control our behavior and push a diet of petri dish meat and bugs on Americans.
Florida is saying no. I was proud to sign SB 1084 to keep lab-grown meat out of Florida and prioritize our farmers and ranchers over the agenda of elites and the World Economic Forum.”
DeSantis also blasted at WEF and told them to leave and take their lab-grown meat with them.
“Quickly take your fake lab-grown meat elsewhere. We’re not doing that in the state of Florida. And this group, the World Economic Forum, they’ve not only told you that the consumption of meat is “the source of greenhouse gas and climate change”. Obviously, they’ve said that they also want you to believe that consuming insects is an “overlooked source of protein and a way to battle climate change.” Now, I’m sure they’ll say: “hey, wait a minute just hear us out before you say yuck.” And to that, I say Florida has heard enough on that.”
He further said, “They want to basically eliminate meat. They want to eliminate cattle, they want to eliminate chicken, all this stuff. They want to create protein in laboratories. … Their goal is to get to a point where you will not be raising cattle. … So it’s not just a question of oh well, they want to put this out there on the market, and some people like it, they can do it. That’s not really what they’re going for. Because they know, that if that was put out there to compete with normal beef, they would lose. So what they want to do is put that out there and then say, ‘Wait a minute, you can do this in a lab… you don’t need cattle… so why don’t you just phase that out?’ That is ultimately the goal.”
The Florida government, in a news release, also pressed that they will continue to invest in local farmers and ranchers and will save Florida’s beef.
