By SRH, “You’re in cowboy country here,” said Ms. Reidhead, who takes a hard line over illegal immigration and protecting her community’s traditional way of life.
Three hundred miles from the U.S. border, a small Arizona hamlet was ready to fight the governor. Pretender Gov. Katie Hobbs helped create this massive American problem but won’t have her office answer the phone. Typical Democrat. Creates problems for Americans, then ignores them when they ask for the solution.
In protest of the governor, residents of a remote Arizona hamlet 300 miles from the US border were ready to shoot.
Phoenix, Arizona Springerville, a small rural town in Arizona, has all the amenities it needs. RV parks, a general store, a small regional hospital, a supermarket, retail businesses, motels, and restaurants are open during the tourist season.
Town’s nearest neighbor is 4,800-person Eagar. The next city, Show Low (population 11,732), lies 50 miles southwest over a vast range and golden hills.
Springerville mayor Shelly Reidhead , “We band together, which is the one thing I pride myself on with this little community.” We care for and adore each other.
“When it really hits the fan, I hope that holds.”
Despite being 300 miles from the US-Mexico border, Springerville nearly had an inflow of illegal immigrants last year.
If the border crisis worsens this year, Ms. Reidhead fears another confrontation with state officials. “I’ve been dreading the presidential election of 2024 because I know what’s in store for us.” This year won’t be great.
Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs and her administration proposed busing illegal aliens to Springerville and lodging them in the 189,000-square-foot Round Valley Ensphere dome stadium in May 2023.On February 7, 2024, the Round Valley Ensphere in Springerville, Arizona, can hold 5,500 people.
After learning, residents were furious and ready to act. Locals who requested anonymity said some intended to install chain fences at the town limit to halt unauthorized immigrant buses. They would bring weapons if needed.
They said it was tight. Thankfully, the municipality urged the governor’s office to get lost, preventing conflict. The stadium looks like a huge flying saucer plopped in horse and cattle country. Large wooden dome stadium with 5,500 covered seats.
The massive, futuristic cage has many uses. Former wildfire victims used it as an improvised shelter. The Arizona governor examined unlawful immigrant temporary housing.
The town opposed it via motion.
On July 19, 2023, the Springerville town council voted “no” to paying immigrants’ expenditures, legal or not, in a legally binding resolution signed by the mayor.
“What [the Biden administration] wants is a broken, chaotic country,” Ms. Reidhead said. “They’re doing a good job.” “We can’t even feed the people in the United States now. How are we going to feed another 8 million people?”
