The White House communications staff has actively corrected President Joe Biden’s public remarks at least 148 times since the beginning of 2024, according to an analysis of official White House transcripts outlined by The Daily Caller.
From Biden’s State of the Union address to his Earth Day remarks, the White House has had to admit mistakes made by the president on numerous occasions.
From January 1 to April 24, spanning 118 statements, speeches, and interactions with reporters, the White House has formally updated its transcripts with corrections to the president’s spoken words on at least 148 occasions, The Daily Caller reports.
The outlet explains that whenever the president delivers a speech or answers questions, the White House promptly releases an official transcript.
The communications staff frequently revises, supplements, or amends Biden’s remarks to align them with official White House policy. However, as the outlet would highlight, official statements required revisions to convey the precise opposite of Biden’s original words in many cases.
Notably these revisions encompass various adjustments, such as rectifying names, dates, and organizational titles. Some alterations involve modifying verbs and completely changing the meaning of the president’s statements. Additionally, the transcripts have been supplemented with words that the president omitted but should have included, according to White House staff.
During Biden’s March State of the Union address, for example, he said: “It was then, through no — through my American Rescue Plan — which every American voted against …” The White House transcript replaced “every American voted against” with “every [Republican] voted against.”
The Daily Caller claims the White House has also put out transcripts that falsely portray what Biden said out loud.
Biden, for instance, at an event last week, seemingly read the word “pause” off of his teleprompter. The clip was widely circulated on social media, blasting the president for his most recent gaffe.
The original White House transcript of the president’s remarks, however, did not include the word “pause” — it said “(inaudible),” The Daily Caller notes.
An updated version of the transcript, however, now incorporates the president’s “pause” as well as any instances of “(inaudible).”
The Daily Caller excluded certain modifications from its final tally because they did not alter the substance of the president’s remarks.
Biden provided inaccurate information or data in certain cases, which the White House transcript subsequently rectified.
During a January 30 campaign reception, Biden said, “Today, 720 million Americans have gotten COVID vaccine.” That count was wrong, and the White House transcript released an update showcasing that what Biden meant to say was “270 million.”
On another White House transcript dated January 5, Biden’s omission of the “T” from “LGBTQ” has been amended.
The Daily Caller conducted a comparison between the number of alterations in Biden’s transcripts and a selection of public remarks made by former President Donald Trump.
In the case of the State of the Union transcript, the Biden White House made 13 corrections. Conversely, the Trump White House did not make any modifications to the former president’s State of the Union address transcript.
