Curtis Yarvin, the monarchist political philosopher whose extreme right-wing views have earned him the moniker “the Red Pill Prince,” has endorsed the re-election of President Joseph Robinette Biden in an essay published Saturday on Substack.
“As most longtime readers know, I have endorsed the Democratic candidate in every election since 2008, except 2016—when, for professional reasons, I was not writing… It should be little surprise that I ask my readers to follow me in endorsing, once again, President Biden. Biden/Harris in ‘24! Americans for continuity! Without continuity, there is no change,” Yarvin said.
Despite Yarvin’s insistence on the predictability of this stance, the endorsement might come as a surprise to those only vaguely familiar with his positions. Yarvin, perhaps best-known for popularizing terms such as “red-pilled” and “The Cathedral,” has been characterized as a dark svengali of the Republican Party in a growing number of hitpieces in the progressive press. He was warmly received on Tucker Carlson’s daytime talk show in 2021, and he has been associated with rightist firebrands such as J.D. Vance and Blake Masters.
Even the Biden-Harris campaign appeared confused as to the political affinities of the “Red Pill Prince,” describing Yarvin as a “top Trump advocate” in an X post promoting a clip from Yarvin’s recent appearance on Charlie Kirk’s eponymous show.

“Top Trump advocate touts Trump’s Project 2025, calls to give Trump total power: We have to end checks and balances. We have to put the president entirely in charge of government,” wrote Biden-Harris HQ, an account run by the Biden 2024 campaign.
Perhaps with a hint of mischievous trolling, Yarvin seized the opportunity to set the record straight, duly informing the Biden-Harris HQ that he was not in fact a top Trump advocate but rather an advocate for their own candidate, and that his prescriptions for a second Trump presidency would also carry over to a second Biden term: Yarvin contends that he would like for nothing more than for President Biden to seize total, dictatorial power over the United States.
“We have to put the president entirely in charge of the government. With no checks and balances. Absolutely none. But, I protest, I said this on Charlie Kirk—to Trump supporters… As a Biden supporter myself, I would say the same, and more, to Biden supporters… I want to put Joe Biden entirely in charge of the government. Or Donald Trump. Or whoever else wins the election. With no checks and balances.”
As is typical of Yarvin’s writing, there is more than a trace of flippancy and irony in his framing of the subject. It would seem that his broader point is that the person occupying the Oval Office is of less importance than the institutional powers bequeathed to the office and the political meta from which the President operates.
To understand how Yarvin’s retrogade views cohere with his endorsement of the progressive Biden administration, we might look to a 2007 post on Yarvin’s former blog Unqualified Reservations, written under the pseudonym Mencius Moldbug.
…[I]magine the dictator isn’t even human. He is an alien. His name is Fnargl. Fnargl came to Earth for one thing: gold. His goal is to dominate the planet for a thousand years, the so-called ‘Thousand-Year Fnarg,’ and then depart in his Fnargship with as much gold as possible. Other than this Fnargl has no other feelings. He’s concerned with humans about the way you and I are concerned with bacteria,” Yarvin writes.
“You might think we humans, a plucky bunch, would say ‘screw you, Fnargl!’ and not give him any gold at all. But there are two problems with this. One, Fnargl is invulnerable—he cannot be harmed by any human weapon. Two, he has the power to kill any human or humans, anywhere at any time, just by snapping his fingers,” Yarvin continues.
Despite the alien invader’s sociopathic indifference to human concerns, Yarvin contends that such an extraterrestrial dictatorship would be preferable to the status quo, as Fnargl would desire to promote peace and prosperity in to maximize the efficiency of human gold extraction—and his overwhelming powers would ensure that he has the means to enforce this peace and prosperity with far greater vigor than our vincible human governments.
“Fnargl’s interests, in fact, turn out to be oddly well-aligned with ours. Anything that makes Fnargl richer has to make us richer, and vice versa… Far from being “totalitarian,” the Fnargocracy is if anything remarkably libertarian. Does Fnargl mind if you light up a jay? Not in the slightest,” Yarvin opines.
Yarvin’s recent endorsement of President Biden may be steeped in a similar principle: In Yarvin’s thought, it matters little whether the ruler is a gold-obsessed extraterrestrial, an orange-hued media savvy real estate tycoon, or a dotarded Silent Generation Delawarian—so long as the office itself is strong and the executive power is absolute.
