U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes barely has a year on the bench after having been appointed by Biden to serve on the District Court for the District of Columbia in February 2023.
She may have kissed any future appointments goodbye after having railed against Biden’s Department of Justice (DOJ) for having ignored Hunter Biden-related subpoenas.
Ironically, the DOJ did this while having put Donald Trump allies in jail for having done the very same thing.
Are You Kidding?
Reyes did not hold her tongue in ripping the DOJ for ignoring the subpoenas related to the Hunter Biden investigation.
Referring to Peter Navarro’s recent imprisonment, she told the DOJ, “There’s a person in jail right now because you all brought a criminal lawsuit against him because he did not appear for a House subpoena.
“And now you guys are flouting those subpoenas. … And you don’t have to show up?
“I think it’s quite rich you guys pursue criminal investigations and put people in jail for not showing up,” but then have the audacity to tell their staffers to do what they have put others in prison for.
“You all are making a bunch of arguments that you would never accept from any other litigant.”
Her tongue-lashing did not end there, either, as she also went after counsel for the House for saying that attorney-client privilege should be waived, telling counsel, “I don’t think you’re going to win that fight.”
At the end of the day, Reyes ordered the DOJ to send its attorneys to the Capitol to answer questions for the House committees that had subpoenaed them.
She took one final shot at both sides, however, stating, “I don’t think the taxpayers want to fund a grudge match between the executive and the legislative. Bad cases make bad law. … This is a bad, bad case for both of you.”
So, unless the DOJ decides to defy her order, we are going to see some fireworks on the Hill next week when these attorneys sit in the hotseat before the committee.
