If a recent report is true, President Joe Biden is considering stepping aside and allowing former first lady Michelle Obama to take over later this year. This from a foreign outlet with a good reputation.
According to a May 5 article in Der Spiegel, President Joe Biden may think about withdrawing his from the presidential race, in favor of Michelle Obama, former First Lady and wife of former President Barack Obama, as Yahoo reported.
It is being considered, reportedly, by the U.S. Democratic Party that Biden could make his announcement during the Chicago party conference in August 2024.
Concerns About Biden
Michelle Obama has been added to the list of possible candidates, according to Der Spiegel. Public opinion polls are being run to determine her chances of being elected.
“The idea of a female president inspires many Americans,” Der Spiegel notes.
Biden’s age is cited by journalists as a potential factor in this decision: two-thirds of Americans hold the belief that he is beyond his viable years to continue serving as president for another term
Many Americans are averse to the prospect of Donald Trump, who is also vying for the presidency, winning the upcoming election, despite his advanced age. Amidst the multitude of legal proceedings lodged against Trump, this could potentially influence voter inclinations.
Continued Time in Public Eye
The former first lady has maintained her recognition, even attending a 2024 College Signing Day event in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, April 30, which stunned thousands of high school students.
The special event partnered with Obama’s Reach Higher initiative, which encourages young people to pursue higher education, which she launched a decade ago while she was First Lady.
“I remember when I was in your shoes, and no matter how hard I worked to prepare, I had this little voice in the back of my head telling me that maybe, just maybe, I didn’t belong,” Obama told the crowd.
“I know that it is easy to write yourself off even before your journey begins, and that’s exactly why I wanted to come and talk to you all today.”
She also went on to share some lessons she learned when she was a first-generation college student.
