Miranda Cosgrove shared details about the lasting impact of a distressing stalking incident that occurred eight years ago during an interview with Bustle
The incident took place at her Los Angeles home, where the stalker tragically took his own life by setting himself on fire and shooting himself in her front yard. Prior to this, he had fired shots at a woman resembling Cosgrove near her property.

She expressed her ongoing struggle with feeling safe, stating to Bustle, “I just don’t feel super safe in that house. For two years after it happened, I wouldn’t really stay there.” Cosgrove also mentioned that being in a relationship helped alleviate some of her fears, but she still feels uneasy being alone in the house.

“This girl came up to me, and she was like, ‘I didn’t know if I should tell you this here or how to say this, but I’m actually the girl that was at your house that got shot at,’” Cosgrove said in the same interview. “She seemed like she processes things in a similar way that I do. She said she’d just gone through a breakup the night before and was going to her friend’s house because she was so distraught. When they brought her into the Hollywood Police Station to ask what he looked like and how it all happened, the detectives were like, ‘Start from the very beginning. What happened?’ And she was like, ‘Well, he broke up with me last night,’ and she started telling them all about her breakup.”
During a Kitten Rescue LA event, Cosgrove unexpectedly met the woman who had been shot at by the stalker. The woman approached Cosgrove and revealed her identity, sharing her personal experience of the incident. Cosgrove recounted the encounter, saying, “This girl came up to me, and she was like, ‘I didn’t know if I should tell you this here or how to say this, but I’m actually the girl that was at your house that got shot at.”
Additionally, Cosgrove expressed empathy towards Richard Gadd, a Scottish comedian who portrayed his own stalking ordeal in a play called “Baby Reindeer.”
She acknowledged the emotional difficulty of reliving such traumatic experiences through performance, telling Bustle, “I feel like if that were me, having to go back through your most terrible experiences and then try to act them [out], that’d be so hard.”
