A Florida man is behind bars after he allegedly killed his girlfriend and then drove her body to a police station where he turned himself into authorities.
Records show 48-year-old Alexander Roque is in the Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation facility without bond on a second-degree murder charge. According to a probable cause arrest affidavit obtained by Law&Crime, the Florida City Police Department approached a white Hyundai Tucson parked outside the police station around 11:18 p.m. Saturday. Roque surrendered to officers and “spontaneously” said there was a body inside the SUV along with the murder weapon, the affidavit said.
Paramedics found the victim dead in the passenger seat and the gun, a .38 revolver, under the driver’s seat, cops say. Local ABC affiliate WPLG, citing sources close to the case, identified the victim as 44-year-old Yesenia Rodriguez.
According to the affidavit, Rodriguez’s estranged husband told police Roque called him to say he had shot Rodriquez dead. Roque then sent the estranged husband a picture of Rodriguez’s body via a text message and followed up with a WhatsApp video call where he again showed the corpse while he drove around Florida City, detectives wrote. The estranged husband recorded some of the WhatsApp call which he turned over to investigators. Roque also called his cousin who encouraged him to turn himself into police, the affidavit said. Roque allegedly sent his cousin a picture of the body as well. The cousin called 911 to report what he had seen, cops say.
Detectives told WPLG that Roque killed Rodriguez because their relationship was failing. Roque refused to talk to detectives after his arrest, the affidavit said. The Miami-Dade Police Department will serve as the lead investigative agency.
Neighbors told local NBC affiliate WTVJ that Roque moved into his Florida City home about two years ago and soon became reclusive after the death of a loved one. He had four locks on the door and tinted the windows so no one could see inside, the outlet reported. Another neighbor said that he came to her home Wednesday night just to warn her he’d be playing loud music.
