Militant anti-Israel protesters who seized control of a building on Columbia University’s campus as janitors were gripped by “sheer terror” of the marauding mob left behind secret plans that were found after the brief occupation was ended.
The plans, which were discovered after the NYPD cleared out the miscreants after the April 30 storming of Hamilton Hall, included such detailed instructions as “lock all windows,” “set up pulley,” and had designated “security shifts,” according to the documents which were obtained by head custodian Henry Clemente and shared with the Gothamist.

“If you have masked people running through the building with zip ties and chains, you don’t know what they’re going to do — if they’re going to take you hostage, if you’re going to be tortured, if you’re going to be made an example,” Clemente told the New York Post, explaining the terrifying ordeal as the pro-Palestine insurrectionists took over the building.
Clemente, who has worked at the Ivy League school for 17 years, said that the detailed documents showed that the Hamas bots had “insider knowledge of the campus and plotted the takeover in advance,” according to the Post.
“I’ve been working there a long time, so we know where the tunnels are, but they mapped everything out,” he said. “They had a food room, a prayer room, the smoking room…they were in there for the long haul.”

The plans give credence to New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ insistence that there were “outside agitators” involved in the protests, given the level of coordination and the sophistication of the hostile takeover at Columbia.

“There is definitely a mastermind behind this,” NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Operations Kaz Daughtry said. “It is clear that these protestors are organized and well funded. What is also clear is that our youth are being radicalized and in some cases have been encouraged to escalate their protests into violence.”
While he was off duty at the time that the mob took over Hamilton Hall, Clemente said that he received a call about workers who had been trapped inside.
“Even if it’s two minutes, two minutes could feel like an eternity just faced with the massive numbers [of protesters]” that charged the building. “I could imagine the sheer terror that they had gone through,” he told the Post.
One Columbia janitor however wasn’t intimidated, becoming a social media sensation for his getting physical with one of the privileged brats.

“Is Columbia going to retaliate and find a reason to fire me? Is someone going to come after me?” 45-year-old father of two Mario Torres told the Free Press. “So I’m taking a big risk doing this, but I think that they failed. They failed us. And I think that’s the bigger story. They failed us. They should have done more to protect us, and they didn’t.”
Clemente provided a number of pictures of the inside of the vandalized building to Gothamist.
“It’s been a lot of vandalism on the buildings around the campus on the back of campus, you know, and [the] facilities [department] has to clean it,” he said. “It’s kind of dangerous, you don’t know who’s putting stuff up and how they can react to you taking it down,” he told the outlet, referring to the graffiti.
“These are smart kids,” the head janitor said. “A lot of kids come from different backgrounds, where one might be into engineering and one might be political… And they all got together and did this.”
