Political success changes people unlike anything else in the world.
Even the most principled elected officials often come out of Washington unrecognizable.
And Marjorie Taylor Greene has a big decision to make after Elon Musk raised questions about Mike Johnson.
High-profile conservative voices have started to turn on Speaker Mike Johnson
In today’s world of intense political divisions, winning control of the House of Representatives has become a difficult task.
However, this is only half the battle because even within the Republican and Democrat parties, extreme variance exists.
When Republicans took back control of the House after the 2022 elections, Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) emerged as House Speaker after a long-fought battle among Republicans.
He did not last long after staunch conservative members of Congress soon demanded his ouster.
Congressman Mike Johnson (R-LA) took his place.
But just six months after taking the mantle of Speaker, some members of Congress have called for Johnson’s removal, introducing a motion to vacate the chair against Johnson.
The current brouhaha started in March, when member of Congress Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) initially filed her motion to vacate against Speaker Johnson when Johnson rammed through a massive $1.7 trillion budget.
Greene has since sat on the motion.
But, with Democrat support, Johnson recently ushered through an additional $95 aid package to help fund Ukraine’s war, further infuriating conservatives.
Following its passage, some House members waved Ukrainian flags on the floor of the House, prompting outrage from some conservative members of Congress.
Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) took to X, sharing a video of these members of Congress waving Ukrainian flags.
“This is the U.S. House of Representatives under the direction of Speaker Mike Johnson. Democrats are celebrating his total capitulation with no victory for securing our border. #MTV,” Massie’s initial post read.
Sharing the video evidently infuriated Mike Johnson.
Massie was reportedly warned of a $500 fine if he did not delete a video post.
The Kentucky Congressman refused to remove the video and again took to social media to vent conservatives’ frustrations at Johnson siding with Democrats.
Instead of fining democrats for waving flags, the House Sergeant at Arms just called and said I will be fined $500 if I don’t delete this video post.
Mike Johnson really wants to memory hole this betrayal of America. https://t.co/5DPWoo4cLw

“Instead of fining democrats for waving flags, the House Sergeant at Arms just called and said I will be fined $500 if I don’t delete this video post,” Massie fumed. “Mike Johnson really wants to memory hole this betrayal of America.”
X owner and tech mogul Elon Musk replied to Massie’s tweet, asking if Massie could be “You can be fined for posting a video?”
“There’s nothing that gives them the authority to demand I remove a video from my congressional account, but they are. There is a fine in the rules for taking pictures/videos on the House floor, but they don’t know if I taped this, and democrats post from the floor frequently (example attached), ”Massie replied back.
“The uniparty is big mad at me for exposing them on several votes and for asking the Speaker to resign. The Speaker, his staff, or one of his allies in our conference is probably directing the Sergeant at Arms to do this,” the lawmaker from Kentucky added.

Johnson’s moves could result in growing support for Greene’s motion to remove him as Speaker.
Mike Johnson’s days could be numbered after defying the conservative base
As Massie pointed out in his tweets, Speaker Johnson has helped to approve several massive spending bills, which do nothing to secure America’s southern border.
Instead, billions of taxpayers’ dollars will go to foreign wars, which many Americans want nothing to do with.
If Mike Johnson does not tread carefully, then he could face a similar fate to Kevin McCarthy.
Now, the question is whether or not Greene will move forward with her motion to vacate before the November elections.
