Everett, WA – A robbery suspect shot an Everett police officer in the head outside a local grocery store early Wednesday morning before he was fatally shot by a second officer near a used car lot across the street.
The series of events that led up to the shootings began at approximately 3:10 a.m. on March 22, when the Everett Police Department (EPD) received a report of an armed robbery in the area of 75th Street Southeast and Evergreen Way, KCPQ reported.
Officers responded to the scene and immediately began searching for multiple suspects, all of whom had fled the scene.
Police honed in on one of the suspects in the area of Casino Road and Evergreen Way, KCPQ reported.
As one EPD officer was driving up to the suspect’s location, the suspect suddenly opened fire on him, according to investigators.
The officer was struck in the head during the attack, KCPQ reported.
The gunman then allegedly took off across the street, where he was confronted by a second EPD officer, according to police.
“During the confrontation, the suspect was shot,” the EPD said in a press release. “Officers immediately rendered aid to the suspect. He died at the scene.”
Investigators said the wounded officer was rushed to Providence Regional Medical Center by a fellow officer using a patrol vehicle, The Seattle Times reported.

He was listed in stable condition late Wednesday morning, according to KCPQ.
A patrol vehicle blocked off with police tape was seen parked at the Fred Meyer gas station in the wake of the attack, according to KOMO.
It had a bullet hole in the driver’s side window.
Evergreen Way was shut down from East Casino Road to Holly Drive as the investigation continued, KOMO reported.
Everett police asked citizens to avoid the area.

The Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team (SMART) is handling the ongoing investigation into the incident.
SMART spokesperson Courtney O’Keefe was asked during a press briefing about a possible third crime scene at a nearby Safeway store, but she said any possible connection that scene might have to the other two scenes is “unconfirmed at this time,” KOMO reported.
“I do believe there was an incident that was at Safeway,” she said. “I don’t know exactly how it connects to this, but yes.”
It is unclear how many additional suspects police may be searching for.
