Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) decided to weigh in over the weekend on social media with her own hot take about the rumors that former President Donald Trump will soon be indicted and arrested and prosecuted by the Democratic Manhattan district attorney in New York City.
In doing so, Pelosi asserted the tired leftist anti-Trump refrain from the past several years that “no one is above the law,” only for that assertion to spectacularly backfire in her face by other social media users, the Independent Journal Review reported.
The rumors of Trump’s imminent legal trouble
Multiple reports indicated last week that Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg and a grand jury were on the verge of issuing a criminal indictment against Trump over a 2016 “hush money” payment to former porn actress Stormy Daniels to keep her quiet about an alleged affair years earlier.
The case, which had previously been looked at and dropped by other prosecutors, is something of a stretch that tries to turn a minor misdemeanor into a felony by way of an alleged violation of federal campaign finance laws.
Quite predictably, Trump went on a tear over the weekend with multiple posts to his Truth Social account that denied any wrongdoing had ever occurred, attacked the prosecutor over his clear bias and partisanship, and urged his supporters to take to the streets in protest if and when he was ever actually arrested and charged with any crimes.
Pelosi opens mouth, inserts foot
On Saturday, Pelosi decided to add her two cents to the discussion about the possible impending arrest and prosecution of her political enemy, Trump but left herself wide open to be countered and rebutted.
“Whatever the Grand Jury decides, its consideration makes clear: no one is above the law, not even a former President of the United States,” Pelosi tweeted. “The former president’s announcement this morning is reckless: doing so to keep himself in the news & to foment unrest among his supporters.”
“He cannot hide from his violations of the law, disrespect for our elections and incitements to violence. Rightfully, our legal system will decide how to hold him accountable,” the California congresswoman added.

Standard must be applied equally or not at all
IJR reported that the online reaction to former Speaker Pelosi’s proclamation that “no one is above the law” was both fierce and swift, with most commenters pointing out that Pelosi herself was seemingly “above the law” in terms of her alleged “insider trading” on non-public knowledge as a member of Congress that has led to her becoming incredibly wealthy over the years.
The “above the law” label was also applied by many to her stock-trading husband, Paul Pelosi, who in addition to standing accused of acting upon and benefiting from the “insider” information provided by his congressional spouse is also accused of having received a mere slap on the wrist for a drunk driving vehicular accident with injury last year that would have likely resulted in serious legal trouble for any average American citizen.
Still others pointed out that Pelosi’s “no one is above the law” standard needed to be applied to former presidents like Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, along with former politicians like failed 2016 Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, as well as the current president, Joe Biden, and his son Hunter and other family members, who are all alleged to have committed various crimes over the years for which they have routinely dodged accountability.
You shouldn’t throw stones if you live in a glass house
IJR noted that Pelosi, in addition to having denied Trump a presumption of innocence, was also attempting to hold him to a behavioral and legal standard that she has clearly been unwilling to apply equally to her comrades in the Democratic Party.
“If the country does indeed have two justice systems — one for the elites and another for everyone else — Pelosi and her ilk are the beneficiaries of special treatment,” the outlet concluded. “Trump has not been charged or convicted of a crime, yet Pelosi is throwing stones at him from one of the biggest glass houses in the country.”
