It was supposed to be a festive night of fun and debauchery for the guests of the Hyatt Regency Miami.
The hotel had booked a drag show called “A Drag Queen Christmas” for its James L. Knight Center.
The show featured drag queens mocking classic Christmas songs with such revisionist titles as “Screwdolph the Red-Nippled Reindeer” and “All I Want for Christmas is You (and Your Money).”
Advertised as a family-friendly event, children under 18 were allowed to attend if accompanied by an adult.
The organizers said the goal was to spread joy and laughter during the holiday season as if mocking Christianity is now festive fun for all.
However, not everyone was amused by the drag show.
Last of all was Florida Governor Ron DeSantis when he caught wind of the event.
“Sexually explicit content is not appropriate to display to children and doing so violates Florida law,” DeSantis press secretary Bryan Griffin said in a statement Wednesday. “Governor DeSantis stands up for the innocence of children in the classroom and throughout Florida.”
DeSantis instructed his administration to file a complaint against the Hyatt Regency Miami, accusing it of violating state laws prohibiting “lascivious exhibition” to minors and “sexually explicit activity” in public places.
DeSantis said he had warned the hotel beforehand not to host the show, but they ignored his threats.
Ignoring DeSantis comes with a price, a lesson Disney learned the hard way when it went head-to-toe with the governor.
DeSantis stripped the Magic Kingdom of its self-governing authority when the California-based company stuck its nose into a Florida law called Parental Rights in Education.
Good for DeSantis. He’s now teaching Hyatt a fact of life: There’s no such thing as “family-friendly” sexual activity.
News of DeSantis’ complaint, of course, upset the Pedo-Uglies who performed that day.
They immediately reached into their worn bag of tired insults to accuse the Florida governor of being homophobic, transphobic, authoritarian, and hypocritical – insulting buzzwords that are now as powerful as a nerf gun.
They argued that the show was harmless fun that celebrated diversity as if diversity could only be observed when five-year-olds are in the audience of a tranny strip show.
The Hyatt Regency Miami issued a statement saying they are reviewing the complaint and would address it with the state’s Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
As of now, it is unclear what will happen next with DeSantis’ complaint or with Hyatt Regency Miami’s alcohol license.
