CNBC reports that far-left U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is now facing a lawsuit from a comedian after she blocked him from being able to access her Twitter page.Â
The comedian is Alex Stein.
The incident that led to Ocasio-Cortez blocking Stein occurred in July of 2022.
As Ocasio-Cortez was walking up the steps to the U.S. Capitol Building, Stein heckled the congresswoman, saying such things as:
I love you, AOC. She wants to kill babies, but she’s still beautiful. You look very beautiful in that dress. You look very sexy. Look at that booty on AOC. That’s my favorite big booty Latina.
The incident was caught on camera, and it made headlines across the country, not so much for what Stein said, but because Stein appeared to almost provoke a physical response from Ocasio-Cortez.
Ocasio-Cortez posted several messages on Twitter about the incident. And, she admitted that she was “walking over to deck him.”
In another message, Ocasio-Cortez wrote:
I posted about a deeply disgusting incident that happened today on the Capitol steps, but took it down bc it’s clearly someone seeking extremist fame. It’s just a bummer to work in an institution that openly allowed this, but talking about it only invites more. Just really sad.
Here is a video he posted of the incident. I was actually walking over to deck him because if no one will protect us then I’ll do it myself but I needed to catch a vote more than a case today pic.twitter.com/RdwCNBDIBb

It turns out that, afterward, Ocasio-Cortez blocked Stein from be able to access her Twitter page. And, now, Stein has brought a lawsuit looking to regain access to it.
In the lawsuit, Stein argues that he “has a constitutional right to access Ms. Cortez’s Twitter account as part of vigorous public comment and criticism.”
Stein’s attorney, Jonathan Gross, put out a statement, saying:
Ms. Cortez’s practice of blocking Twitter users she disagrees with is unconstitutional and this suit seeks to redress that wrong. My client is a political satirist. Political speech, the Supreme Court has said, is the highest level of protected speech.
It is unclear what chances Stein has of success here. According to CNBC, Ocasio-Cortez has faced a similar case in the past and lost.
Stein, for his part, says:
“I really don’t have any hard feelings for AOC. I really would like to have her unblock me. I think ethically, AOC is kind of playing fast and loose.”
Ocasio-Cortez, at the time of this writing, has yet to respond to Stein’s suit.
