It was announced on Wednesday that nearly all of former President Donald Trump’s children, including his youngest son Barron, along with the spouses or significant others, will serve as nominating delegates on his behalf at the Republican National Convention in July.
The lone exception there is Trump’s eldest daughter Ivanka, along with her husband Jared Kushner, who will not be participants in the nominating convention this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
While that apparent split in the Trump family may be disappointing to some, it isn’t particularly surprising, given how both Ivanka and Jared, who served as senior advisers in Trump’s first term as president, purposefully stepped back from politics in 2022 to focus instead on raising their young children.
Ivanka stepped away from politics in 2022
When former President Trump first announced his re-election campaign following the midterm elections in November 2022, Fox News reported at the time that Ivanka Trump made it clear that she had no intentions of getting involved in the political process again, as she had in the 2016 and 2020 election cycles.
“I love my father very much. This time around, I am choosing to prioritize my young children and the private life we are creating as a family,” Ivanka said. “I do not plan to be involved in politics.”
“While I will always love and support my father, going forward I will do so outside the political arena,” she continued. “I am grateful to have had the honor of serving the American people and will always be proud of many of our administration’s accomplishments.”
Ivanka noted how much her family was enjoying their relatively quiet new lives and “thriving” in Miami, Florida, and added, “We’re happy where we are right now, and we will continue to support my father — as his kids.”
Barron described as “very interested” in national politics
Yet, while Ivanka Trump placed herself “outside the political arena” in 2022, Politico reported this week that Barron, who just turned 18 in March and hasn’t even graduated from high school yet, was set to “enter [the] political arena” and advance directly to the “political big leagues” as a nominating delegate for his father.
The former president’s youngest son was picked on Wednesday by the Florida Republican Party to be an “at-large delegate” at the GOP’s nominating convention in July in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
An unnamed Trump campaign official told the outlet that Barron, who hasn’t yet revealed his college plans for the fall, “is very interested in our nation’s political process.”
Other Trump family members will fill out Florida’s delegation to the GOP convention
Joining Barron as one of Florida’s 125 delegates at the GOP convention, according to the Daily Mail, are his older brother Donald Trump Jr. and his fiance Kimberly Guilfoyle, along with older brother Eric, who will chair the state’s delegation and formally cast its nomination of his father to serve a second term as president.
Also joining Barron as at-large delegates are his older sister Tiffany and her husband, Michael Boulos. Eric’s wife, Lara Trump, will also be in attendance, albeit not as a Florida delegate, as she instead will be serving in her new role as co-chair of the Republican National Committee.
The Daily Mail noted that Barron, who was just 10 when his father was first elected, will finally be able to cast a vote this year — first at the convention, then during Florida’s primary election in August, followed by the general election in November.
“We have a great delegation of grassroots leaders, elected officials, and even Trump family members,” Florida GOP chairman Evan Power said in a statement on Wednesday. “Florida is continuing to have a great convention team, but more importantly we are preparing to win Florida and win it big.”
