Schools have emerged as one of the biggest battlegrounds in the Left’s culture war.
Florida is making government schools mission education, not indoctrination.
And Ron DeSantis uttered four words that sent teachers unions into a meltdown.
Florida ranks as the number one state in the country for education
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has taken a sledgehammer to woke indoctrination in government schools.
He led the charge to outlaw Critical Race Theory (CRT), radical gender ideologies, and race essentialism in the classrooms of government schools.
The DeSantis education agenda returned power to parents over their children’s education from government bureaucrats.
And he bucked the pressure from teachers unions to keep classrooms open during the pandemic.
These common-sense policies put him in the crosshairs of Big Labor, Democrats, and their public relations arm in the media.
DeSantis took a well-deserved victory lap after Florida was ranked number one in the country for education by U.S. News and World Report for 2024.
The Sunshine State bested every other state in the outlet’s rankings for overall education and higher education.
Florida ranked 10th in the preschool category.
Higher education in Florida has the lowest tuition and fees in the country at around $4,600.
Meanwhile, some private universities in the northeast have seen tuition soar to over $90,000 per year.
The metrics that U.S. News used in making its rankings were affordability, accessibility, and achievement.
Much to the chagrin of the Left, the outlet admitted that the “controversial” education policies of DeSantis did not harm the state’s ranking.
DeSantis said that when the media claims someone does something controversial it just means that they do not like it.
“Florida is the No. 1 state in the country for education,” DeSantis said last month. “By focusing on core academic subjects and rejecting indoctrination in the classroom, we have become a standard-bearer for educational excellence.”
And the state could further cement its status as the educational leader with new policies going into effect.
DeSantis signed a bill that would allow underperforming public schools to be converted into charter schools by removing red tape.
U.S. News and World Report added to the good news by also ranking Florida as the number one economy.
Florida ranks number one in parental empowerment in education
The Center for Education Reform ranked Florida as the top state in the country in its Parents Power Index.
“Florida gives more power to parents than any other state to ensure their kids’ get the education they deserve,” The Center for Education Reform said on social media.
The Parents Power Index methodology looked at school choice, charter school programs, and innovation.
“Florida yet again was ranked number one when it comes to parent empowerment when it comes to education,” DeSantis. “We’re very proud of that. We’ve stood up for the rights of parents to direct the educational upbringing of their kids. Making sure parents have a role in knowing about what’s taught in their kids’ schools. And then school choice, empowering parents to choose the best school possible regardless of income. So, I think that’s confirmation that we’re standing for parents and children.”
By empowering parents and fighting indoctrination, Ron DeSantis has turned Florida into the education state.
