Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) suggested Sunday on CNN that President Joe Biden was pandering to elements of his Democratic base by waffling in his support for Israel and trying to walk a line between being an ally and criticizing the nation’s efforts to destroy Hamas after it was brutally attacked in October.
Fetterman said he still supported Biden and called him a “fantastic president,” but did not agree with him and thought the U.S, should support Israel with “no conditions.”
Iran’s attack on Israel over the weekend “demonstrates how it’s astonishing that we are not standing firmly with Israel and there should never be any kind of conditions on all of that,” Fetterman said to Jake Tapper.
“When a nation can launch hundreds of drones towards Israel, and I’m not going to be talking about conditions – ever,” he added.
Iran was largely unsuccessful in its attack on Israel, which it said was retaliation for a strike by Israel that hit its embassy in Syria.
Most of the missiles from Iran were stopped before hitting their targets, but at least one person, a young girl, was critically injured and later died when one of the strikes made it through Israel’s defenses.
