Rush Limbaugh, the conservative radio host who shaped the modern-day Republican party, is dead after losing his battle with cancer. He was 70.
His wife, Kathryn Rogers, announced his death on his weekday radio show, according to Fox News.
Limbaugh is best known for his nationally syndicated ‘Rush Limbaugh Show’ and was also the author of seven books. Last year, former President Donald Trump presented the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Limbaugh during his State of the Union address, days after the radio host announced his diagnosis during his radio show on February 3.
“For over 32 years, Rush has cherished you, his loyal audience, and always looked forward to every single show. It is with profound sadness that I must share with you directly that our beloved Rush, my wonderful husband, passed away this morning due to complications from lung cancer,” Kathryn said. “As so many of you know, losing a loved one is terribly difficult, even more so when that loved one is larger than life.”
There have been some people talking about how Rush’s death certificate stated that he was “the greatest radio host of all time,” but it wasn’t until Kathryn appeared on Glenn Beck’s radio show did the truth come out.
Beck wanted to know, on behalf of all of his fans, whether or not it was true that Limbaugh’s death certificate made the blanket claim that he was the greatest conservative radio talk show host of all time. And what Kathryn had to say sums up Rush’s personality in one line.
“Yes,” Kathryn replied, laughing. “We have to be on brand at all times… Another thing that we wanted to do and a way to tweak the media as a final goodbye from Rush, which we know he certainly would have loved.”
Although Limbaugh was married four times, he had no children. But his wife of 11 years will be in good hands. Kathryn, 44, married Limbaugh in 2010 in a lavish Hawaiian-themed wedding bash headlined by none other than Sir Elton John.
“I know that I am most certainly not the Limbaugh that you tuned in to listen to today. I, like you, very much wish Rush was behind this golden microphone right now, welcoming you to another exceptional three hours of broadcasting,” his wife told listeners in a surprise announcement on his radio show Wednesday.
“For over 32 years, Rush has cherished you, loyal audience, and always looked forward to every single show. It is with profound sadness I must share with you directly that our beloved Rush, my wonderful husband, passed away this morning due to complications from lung cancer.”
More details of this story from AWM:
Kathryn works as an event organizer professionally. She met Rush back in 2004 after the conservative magnate divorced his third wife, Marta Fitzgerald, during the same year. Kathryn is allegedly a direct descendant of the American Founding Father and president John Adams.
“This may be breaking news, but I believe that Sir Elton John and Rush are actually very, very similar. They had quite a similar demeanor off of their performance personality. I believe that they both were so hard-working they both were at the top of their game, so to speak, they both loved their audience… So in many respects, they were very similar.”
On the first anniversary of her husband’s death, Kathryn said that she believes Rush would be deeply disappointed in America today.
“He would be upset with the United States not being as strong as it has been and should be,” Kathryn told Fox News back in February. “I know he would say it’s not time to panic.”
She added, “It’s never time to panic. Folks, it is never ever going to be time to give up on our country. It’ll never be time to give up on the United States. It’ll never be time to give up on yourself.”
