A pregnant woman just a few weeks shy of her due date was killed along with her unborn daughter when a suspected drunk driver crashed into their car head-on in Commie California over the weekend.
Nicole Ruddy, 33, who was 35 weeks pregnant, was sitting in the front passenger seat of a Toyota Carolla heading north along Highway 495 when a Ford Explorer drove into oncoming traffic and slammed into her vehicle around 11:40 p.m. Saturday, Fox 11 reported.
First responders rushed the pregnant woman to an area trauma center, where both she and her unborn daughter, whom she planned to name Amelia Grace, were pronounced dead, according to KTLA.
The report explains that Nicole’s husband, Andrew Ruddy, 36, suffered extensive injuries in the crash and reportedly required surgery.
The San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department identified the suspect who cause the crash as 43-year-old Eddie Escobedo. He was treated for his injuries in the hospital, then booked into the county jail on a $100,000 bond, according to Fox 11 and KTLA.
Escobedo faces charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI, the sheriff’s department stated.
The report states that Nicole Ruddy had her own business as a wedding planner, and also volunteered at her local church.
A Facebook post by the First Christian Church of Fallbrook reads: “The Alaniz family asks for prayer today as a family member Nicole Ruddy and her unborn child Amelia Grace were tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident. Her husband Andew Ruddy remains in the hospital. We appreciate you’re prayers. Psalm 34:18 “The LORD is near the broken-hearted …””
