Pottsville, AR – A seventh-grade science teacher and head varsity softball and tennis coach was arrested last week on a sexual assault of a minor charge.
Meredith “Lyndsey” Hill, 35, was arrested at the Pope County Detention Center at approximately 10 a.m. on Jan. 19, KARK reported.
Hill has been charged with first-degree sexual assault of a minor.
The Arkansas State Police (ASP) Crimes Against Women and Children Division notified the Pottsville Police Department (PPD) about the investigation into Hill on Jan. 13, according to KARK.
The Pope County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) is also assisting with the ongoing investigation.
No other details were immediately released.
Pottsville School District Superintendent Larry Dugger said in a statement that the district had been “made aware of an allegation involving a student and a staff member,” according to KATV.
“We are cooperating with law enforcement’s investigation into the matter and have taken all appropriate and lawful actions to assure the safety of students, which is the District’s top priority at all times,” Dugger wrote. “Due to confidentiality considerations for students and staff under applicable law, the District will have no further comment at this time.”

A group of outraged parents descended on a Pottsville School District meeting just hours after Hill’s arrest, KARK reported.
One parent said her now-ninth-grader was one of Hill’s students back in the seventh grade.
According to her son, rumors about Hill and a student having an inappropriate relationship began swirling during his eighth-grade year, KARK reported.
“There’s been accusations going on for over a year that my child is aware of, and nobody has done anything,” the woman told the school district.
She said she was also upset that she had to learn about Hill’s arrest through social media instead of from school officials, KARK reported.
The angry mother said the school district “didn’t take the courtesy to call the parents and say we are aware of this and we’re sorry that this happened on our watch.”
“This is lasting damage for that student, whether he knows that now or not,” she added.
Another parent called for any school employees who knew about the allegations and failed to take action to be fired, KARK reported.
“If the administration knew something about this before and didn’t do anything, I think there needs to be some firings here,” he declared.
Hill has been with the Pottsville School District for the past six years, according to KVOM.
She has been coaching the Lady Apaches softball team for five years, and coach of the tennis team for three years, KVOM reported.
Hill’s employment status is unclear.
