As the 25th anniversary of her sex scandal with former President Bill 'Slick Willy' Clinton approaches, former White House intern Monica Lewinsky has published an article in which she listed 25 things she has learned about life and the world since that incident.
In her article, Lewinsky pointed out that society has become more accepting of “bullying” and that it is closer to the dystopian future depicted in Margaret Atwood’s novel “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
In commemoration of the scandal that had a significant impact on her life and led to intense media scrutiny, Lewinsky wrote an article in Vanity Fair on Wednesday, which is a list of 25 things she has noticed and learned in the 25 years since it occurred.

For example, she mentioned “If you can’t laugh at yourself, you are so f*****”, and also added “Turns out our parents are not ‘dumb.’ Quite the opposite. (But they are still annoying at times.)”
Additionally, she emphasized the significance of “Finding joy” in life.
In addition to these pieces of wisdom, Lewinsky also made some pointed political criticisms of the world, including the observation that society is moving closer to a future controlled by a strict patriarchal society that compels women to bear children.
She wrote, “In 2023, we are (unfortunately) closer to the reality depicted in Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale than we were when the book was first published in 1985.” Her comment refers to Atwood’s dystopian novel, where women’s rights and control over their own bodies are almost non-existent.
This point is often echoed by extreme leftists on Twitter when pro-life Americans try to make political progress. Lewinsky’s statement may be a reference to the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade last year.
She also criticized the political class in America for promoting bullying, writing, “5. As shown by some members of the political-operative class in this country, bullying, both online and in public, has not only become an accepted way of doing business but also an expanding source of revenue. (It has also led to the suffering of many innocent people.)”
In addition to highlighting societal issues, Lewinsky also recognized some of the positive changes that have occurred since her White House incident, including the increased diversity in Congress.
She also wrote, “In 1998, the 105th Congress was made up of 65 female members and 67 members who identified as Black, Hispanic, Asian or Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, Native American, or multiracial. In 2023, the 118th Congress is composed of 149 female members and 133 members who identify themselves in diverse categories.”
Lewinsky also praised the country for allowing and codifying gay marriage, calling it a “benchmark for social triumph” in those 25 years, stating, “The freedom to marry whomever one wants was made possible (2015) and protected (2022).”
