San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan was in the middle of an interview when things quickly went wrong.
The Democrat mayor was interrupted during an on-camera interview with local station KRON4 on the streets of San Jose as a man on a phone came onto the scene, eventually getting into an extended scuffle with one of the mayor’s security detail.
“I’m talking on the phone, you got a problem?” the man said to a person off-camera after the mayor politely tried to tell him they were doing an interview.
But as words were exchanged, the man, later identified as 35-year-old Wesley Pollard, grew increasingly agitated, using profanity as he argued back.
“I will smack you right now… you want to get smacked?!” he demanded.
A CA mayor’s security detail was randomly assaulted during a downtown news event. It’s more stark evidence that California’s urban centers have been turned into dangerous places, where seriously addicted, mentally ill and many violent people now roam freely due to weak state laws… pic.twitter.com/YhQqoilayA

The mayor’s security, an off-duty San Jose cop, and Pollard were embroiled in the struggle for a few minutes, as seen in the video. It was several minutes before police arrived.
According to the San Jose Police Department, “the security detail tried many times to de-escalate the situation without using force,” KRON4 reported.
“Mahan’s security detail sustained an injury during the altercation and was taken to the hospital. He stayed at the hospital overnight with head and neck pain and is expected to be released Wednesday afternoon,” the outlet reported.
Pollard was booked for resisting an arrest with violence and for battery of an officer and, according to the news outlet, “It was later discovered that Pollard had a warrant for his arrest from Georgia for resisting arrest with violence.”
The suspect was being held at Elmwood Correctional Facility in Milpitas with a bail of $26,000.
Social media reactions to the incident ranged from anger, outrage, and shock but many seemed to sense a sort of karma for Democrats and their policies.
Why is no one helping him? They are just standing there watching. About 7 people.

There were at least 12 other full-grown men in the area. Why did everyone watch, film, or make a call instead of assisting??? No one even raised their voice to say stop. Where are the adults??? Do people really wonder why crime is skyrocketing in CA??? @mattmahan

California politicians are finally facing the ramifications of their pro-crime policies:
LA Mayor Karen Bass was robbed on the weekend. It was the 2nd time in 2 years.
Yesterday, San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan’s security detail was attacked on a live TV interview.
In October,…

Karma is a form of irony.
The Democratic Mayor of San Jose, Matt Mahan, formerly an advocate for police reform, had his security guard assaulted by a thug while recording an interview on the street.
Instead of helping his security he called the police. pic.twitter.com/gx8zt5Dro7

Ahhh… There’s the problem. We all just need to hire security guards.
It’s good for a mayor to see what the rest of America is dealing with.

It was a mostly peaceful interview.
