According to former President Trump’s campaign team, they collected over $50 million at a GOP fundraising event in Palm Beach, Florida on Saturday evening, setting a new fundraising record for both Republican and Democratic candidates.
“It took three Democrat presidents to raise $25 million and one president to raise over $50 million, Donald J. Trump,” campaign spokesperson Danielle Alvarez said.
The fundraising event on Saturday was held at a luxurious residence in Palm Beach, organized by billionaire John Paulson. The exclusive guest list of around 100 people included prominent figures such as Steve Wynn, Robert Bigelow, and Wilbur Ross.
“The response to our fundraising efforts has been overwhelming, and we’ve raised over $43 million so far,” Paulson said in a statement. “There is massive support amongst a broad spectrum of donors.”
Melania Trump said, “This has been some incredible evening before it even starts because people – they wanted to contribute to a cause of making America great again, and that’s waht’s happened.”
Despite the anticipation of raising tens of millions at the fundraiser, former President Trump still needs to narrow the financial gap with his Democratic opponent, current President Biden.
Biden reportedly has approximately $192 million available, while Trump has a little over $93 million.
The fundraising event was described by the president’s re-election campaign as historic due to setting a new record for a single fundraiser.
The success of Trump’s event, attended by high-profile individuals, signifies a resurgence in fundraising for both the former president and the Republican Party.
Initially facing challenges in attracting major donors during the start of his campaign, Trump’s momentum grew as he secured victories and emerged as the presumptive nominee for the party, garnering solid support from the GOP.
Donations made at the event will support the Trump 47 Committee, as stated in the invitation, which is a collaborative fundraising effort involving the Republican National Committee, state Republican parties, and Save America, a political action committee that covers a significant portion of Trump’s legal expenses.
Attendees have the option to contribute $814,600 per person as a “chairman” contributor, which includes a seat at Trump’s table, or $250,000 per person as a host committee contributor.
Both packages offer a chance for a photo opportunity and a personalized copy of Trump’s photo book documenting his time in office.
Additionally, three of Trump’s former rivals in the GOP primary race – Senator Tim Scott from South Carolina, Governor Doug Burgum from North Dakota, and biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy – are expected to make appearances as “special guests.”
