President Biden entered office with a promise to repair the damage inflicted by former President Trump on the international stage. He vowed to prioritize values like democracy and human rights while also aiming to end the “forever wars” in Afghanistan and the Middle East.
Yet, some critics argue that U.S. foreign policy has been marked by a string of failures, including a weak approach to immigration and border policies, troubled peace initiatives in the Middle East and the proliferation of nuclear capabilities among rival powers.
Straight Arrow News contributor Newt Gingrich expresses concern over recent blunders in U.S. foreign policy and highlights a pattern of missteps dating back to Biden’s tenure as vice president.
And then we had the Israeli crisis caused by an all-out assault on October 7, with 1,100 Israelis killed, with others taken hostage, with women gang raped, with babies killed — the Israelis were furious and decided they would have to get even, and they would have to make sure it would never happen again. So they began a policy of going into Gaza and methodically hunting down and destroying Hamas as a military force. Finally, they pushed into the last great city: Rafah. And then Joe Biden decided to announce that he wanted Rafah to become a sanctuary city for terrorists, that the Israelis shouldn’t go in. Now, that would mean that Hamas would survive. They would have won the strategic war, even if they’d lost everything else.
In the middle of that argument, the Israelis found the two Iranian generals who had killed the people on October 7. These were the generals who designed the attack, planned the attack, provided the weapons for the attack and trained Hamas. And the Israelis went after them and killed them in Damascus with a bombing raid. Well, that infuriated the government of Iran. So the government of Iran said we’re gonna send 335 missiles and other vehicles, and we’re gonna really hammer Israel. And when asked what the American position was, Biden once again said: “Don’t.” But in fact, the Iranians did 335 times. So now you have this policy. Biden says “don’t,” the bad guys do, and Biden does nothing.
And now we’re encouraging that the Israelis absorb the attacks and do nothing. Somehow, it’s dangerous to be Joe Biden’s friend. If you’re his enemy, he’ll find an excuse. But if you’re a friend, he’s gonna find a way to weaken you. That should trouble every American.
