An 18-year-old Florida man has been arrested for a traffic accident last year that killed a 66-year-old woman.
Alexis Maratinez Alonso was charged with vehicular homicide, the Naples Police Department said.
Police said he was driving 66 mph on US 41 in Naples on December 15, 2023, and sped up to 81 mph in order to beat a traffic light that was changing to red.
He passed several cars that were slowing for the light and sped through the light after it changed to red, slamming into the passenger side door of an Audi and seriously injuring the occupants, including Mary McNamara, who died a week later at Gulf Coast Medical Center.
Martinez Alonso is being held in the Collier County Jail.
